Hoping I can get some advice.

Just before Christmas someone went into the back of me on the school run when I had all the kids and DP in the car.

Guy was apologetic and asked to just pay for the damage, we agreed as it saved messing with insurance it would get done quicker and we had a lot on our plates at the time. We got quotes for the damage which was more then expected but we was communicating and said we could get some quotes to try and save him some money, all fine. We told him the lowest quote and heard nothing back, I texted him three days later meaning today saying if we didn't hear back we would contact the insurance company before they close but nothing.

Just speaking to a friend and she said I can get in trouble and theclaim be invalid because we didn't phone them straight away?

Any advice would be great before I phone the insurance thanks

Most insurers do specify you need to call within a few days. Check your policy.

Happened to me and my insurance didn't ask whey I didn't ring sooner, a teen on a motorbike with L plates drove into my car driving between lanes of traffic whilst I was stopped at the lights, his mum asked to just pay but started avoiding my messages when I said it was £400, got 2 quotes for her she asked could her sons friend from colleague do it if I took it round to his house, I said garage or nothing then didn't hear from her so just sent one last text saying I was going through my insurance and did
