What apps have changed your life?

I've finally replaced my ancient crappy phone that would cause apps to crash with a cheap but nice new android Smile

I'm currently rediscovering the world of apps but I'm overwhelmed by so much being available. What apps do you love or have changed your life?

Dunno about changed my life but a period tracker app is very handy

RomanticFatigue · 29/01/2019 16:46

Uber and TfL have revolutionized my nights out!

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2019 16:47

I really like my banking app for ease and mytaxi for ordering black cabs

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 29/01/2019 16:49

Mumsnet! Also online banking and Amazon

PlainVanilla · 29/01/2019 16:53

My bank's app has changed my life, but not in a good way. Bank changed its online banking over to an app which required a new code for each device used and does not work with my Mac/Safari. Really useful.
Plus, due to moving in 2002, I live quite a distance from the actual branch I bank at.
I have been doing online banking for at least 17 years without issue. Now I have to go to a branch again.
Bank's solution to my issues not very helpful. I will go into the branch in person soon and get them to talk me through their app, because there was no information on system requirements at the time they changed.
I am generally not a fan of apps as they appear far more restrictive and limited than going to a website (for example, Expedia).

DianaBlythe · 29/01/2019 16:54

Google maps has probably revolutionised my life the most! And the torch! Clearly I am quite dull!

BitOutOfPractice · 29/01/2019 16:54

MyFitnessPal

headhurtstoomuch · 29/01/2019 16:55

Waze! Here's to never getting lost again whilst driving.

scorpio32 · 29/01/2019 16:56

Pokémon Go

SlimGin · 29/01/2019 16:59

I'm very boring. Bank apps and my local taxi rank has an app just like Uber which was very helpful before I could drive!
When I was contracting with DD a contractions timer app was soo useful

EyeDrops · 29/01/2019 17:04

Sleep Cycle in place of a normal alarm. Properly revolutionised my waking up - it senses your movement, you set a rough time to wake up and the alarm goes off when it senses you're in a 'light' sleep phase (I.e practically awake anyway). It's brilliant - never jars you awake, every morning it goes off I feel like I'm naturally waking up anyway. Love it.

SwearyInn · 29/01/2019 17:04

Shazam - have found some really amazing music from Shazaming stuff.

AwdBovril · 29/01/2019 17:06

One Note. My short term memory is appalling (neuro issue), so I have running lists on there for everything. General things to do, a daily to do list that I tick off & copy over to the next day. Birthday present ideas / things I've already purchased.

Period tracker. I'm fairly regular & get migraines at regular points through the month, so it helps me predict those too.

Online banking. So much easier!

Online grocery shopping - no car, disabled, live semi-rural with not great public transport. Again, much easier. Morrisons very reliable IME, only had 2 subs in 3 years.

I have a torch app but rarely use it. It eats the battery! Good though.

Citymapper - great for London. I wish the developers would realise there are other cities though... I occasionally try it out, in the forlorn hope it might work. No. Google Maps just doesn't compare.

Galls me to say it, but Amazon. I do try to shop in RL or with smaller online stores before resorting to them, though.

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2019 17:16

Oh and Citymapper
Beats walking around with an A to Z

Sarcelle · 29/01/2019 18:03

Banking app, noise reducing app, Amazon, doctors surgery app for appointments, trip advisor, Peak brain training, Good Reads, Twitter (great for getting a complaint noticed and dealt with quickly), Tunedin radio, Mumsnet.

frenchonion · 29/01/2019 22:19

Ooo brilliant! Lots to consider. I already online bank with an app but totally agree is invaluable. Living v.rurally rules out taxi/uber for me, but can see how it would be useful. I ate out last night in a nice gaff and used the app to get a fantastic deal on the food and free wine. Anyone recommend any calendar type apps?

Have just downloaded amazon, as I do order bits and pieces from there quite regularly but hadn't thought of app instead of website. Loving the dash button things. Is going to be dangerous Grin

ACoverIsNotTheBook · 29/01/2019 22:27

The kindle app! Most used app I have. I go through books at an alarming rate and being able to download the next in the series as soon as you’ve finished the one you’re reading still feels so amazing to me. Some people can’t read on screens but I have an iPhone 8plus so it’s quite big and have the brightness adjusted so it’s not harsh. Being able to pull my phone out and have a read when I’m waiting in a doctors surgery or in the car (not driving obviously lol) is brill :)

Epiphany52 · 29/01/2019 22:31

Bring app - it’s a shopping list app. It’s free and you can synch with other people. That means DH can pick things up from the shop that I forget!
Plus you can take a photo of the specific item so he can’t get confused and buy the wrong thing. I love it.

torthecatlady · 29/01/2019 22:33

My most used apps are Mumsnet, Facebook, monzo, ClearScore, premium bonds prize checkers and google maps.

Wobblington · 29/01/2019 22:34

Evernote. I have notebooks set up with different themes -eg I have one for my kids school which holds their endless letters, term dates, meal menus etc
I photo all my receipts and important paperwork and it's searchable in the app so easy to find.

Google photos - I back up all my photos to this app and have various albums set to sharing for family members

What's app - free media sharing like photos memes and videos. Plus video calling facility

Pokémon go Blush I supposedly got it for my DC but now I'm level 24 and can't give it up!

Calendar I use Nine which is email calendar and tasks but was a paid app. Very good though and manages both my work and personal email accounts

Scoleah · 29/01/2019 22:39

Online Banking, Hive (controls my lights) & British has (top up smart meters)

Graphista · 29/01/2019 22:40

Place marking

Mainly I use mumsnet, Amazon, sainsburys & kindle

Plus I have some games I enjoy but that's quite a personal thing. A mix of "match 3" and sim type games

Scoleah · 29/01/2019 22:40

Just eat too BlushGrin

Longdistance · 29/01/2019 22:41

I like the notes app on my iPhone. Brilliant for my weekly shopping list. I don’t overspend now.

I like the Nationwide app. I think it’s really well designed and user friendly.

I also like flight radar 24. I know when my dh has landed wherever he goes away on business. And if he lands back, I can go pick him up.
