Hello there - we were thinking about a 2 -3 week holiday this summer in Canada but don't really know where to go! Does anyone have anywhere that they would real recommend?

Vancouver is a lovely city and Vancouver island is amazing. We stayed in Tofino and it was so beautiful. We went whale watching ( we were there in March when the grey whales were passing) but think you can see killer whales all year round).

I live in NS so I am biased, but see for your self (short tourism video)
Tourism Nova Scotia

We're off to Toronto and Prince Edward Island this summer. Can't wait!!

Road trip from Calgary to Vancouver, then a look at Vancouver island. The Rockies are absolutely amazing, I'd never get tired of looking at them!

I second Tofino, it's great. I loved the drive from Victoria to Tofino as well. I want to go back to Vancouver, I 'd like to redo Winnipeg and Edmonton, and I'd love to go to Montreal and Quebec. I also want to see Halifax and the Anne of Green Gables Islands.

Niagara on the Lake is also very pretty and the Falls are stunning.

We need more info op.

Are you willing to do East - West? Or focus on one area?
How will you travel? Car? Camper van ? Train? Internal flights?

Budget?

WickedGoodDoge · 29/01/2019 19:47

We did a week in Vancouver and a week in Whistler last summer. We didn’t even bother renting a car- took a bus between the two. It was a good combination of city and outdoorsy stuff.

If I were renting a car and not so lazy (we just wanted a two centre holiday), I’d fly to Calgary and drive to Banff then get the train to Vancouver, or vice versa.

raspberrycordial · 29/01/2019 20:04

@Sandinshoes is that because of Anne of green gables? That is my most favourite film in the whole world ever! Does anyone know if I would be disappointed if I went to PEI just because I love the film so much?

Rockies Banff to jasper. Vancouver Island. Vancouver for a very short stay if you like cities.

The train from Banff to Vancouver is about £1000 each for 2 days.

BestIsWest · 29/01/2019 20:10

We stayed in the Rockies then flew from Calgary to Vancouver Island then got the ferry to Vancouver.

Janleverton · 29/01/2019 20:20

We flew into Calgary, drove through to Vancouver doing:

Banff (hot springs, mountain)
Jasper
Whitewater rafting in Clearwater
Whistler
Parksville (Vancouver island)
(whale watching)
Victoria
Vancouver (capilano, grouse mountain)

Stopping along the way to break up journey at various stops, lakes, rivers, waterfalls.

Best holiday ever!

The sunshine coast and squamish, in British Columbia. Such lovely scenery and people.

Toomanycats99 · 29/01/2019 20:39

I did Toronto, Banff then rocky mountaineer to Vancouver. Not fussed on Toronto. Loved Vancouver. Loved the train but we did gold class and not sure I would bother with standard.

Sandinshoes · 29/01/2019 20:42

raspberrycordial mainly due to my sister and her family spending 3 years out on PEI but I love Anne of Green Gables too. Have you seen Anne with an E series? That’s filmed on PEI. Can’t wait to learn about the indigenous peoples. PEI is full of artists too.

We’d love to go to Vancouver too. We were going to go for our honeymoon then decided to get some warmth in Egypt instead. My husband got his bag stolen with his wallet, passport and phone in. My cards were stopped and my phone broke. The officials wouldn’t let my husband out of the country and we were abandoned by the reps. Ended up homeless on the stress of Cairo for 36 hours with the embassy ringing our parents to say we were lost (they wouldn’t let us in and sent us to the consulate who wouldn’t get the embassy man who was helping us). So for our 10th wedding anniversary we’re finally getting to go to Canada. At least if there’s a disaster they will speak English and women are considered people!!!

I live near Calgary. I would recommend the Rocky Mountains and into British Columbia, it's beautiful. Waterton is in the Rockies, there are loads of bears and lakes, a lovely place to visit. Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper, Revelstoke and Golden. Also Vancouver and Tofino is beautiful, especially with the whale watching :-)

Janleverton · 29/01/2019 21:01

Yes we stayed near tofino too - lovely hotel right on the beach.
