What is the strangest thing you have kept?

Name changed for this as it is quite possibly outing.
What is the strangest thing you have kept hold of? Mine has to be the gallstone that I had removed in 2016. I was given it to keep by my surgeon as they had never seen one as big as this.

I have a very long thin piece of skin I accidentally shaved (very painful, but impressive), the long plait from when I first had my haircut (aged 11) and a long piece of hair called a rat's tail ( fashionable in the 90's). I did have my first DC umbilical cord and the pregnancy test but DH made me bin them. Spoil sport.

Hen2018 · 28/01/2019 19:55

Bits of umbilical cord.

Hen2018 · 28/01/2019 19:56

Oh, and part of the gas and air thing that I shattered from biting it so hard. In fact, the whole thing is covered in bite marks.

frazzledasarock · 28/01/2019 19:57

Where do you keep umbilical chord, doesn’t it smell it’s rottibg flesh!

Pinkywoo · 28/01/2019 20:00

I'm so jealous they let you keep your gallstone, I had dermoid cysts removed, complete with teeth and bones in, and they wouldn't let me have them!

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 28/01/2019 20:03

I had my arm in a cast as a teen. Kept it til in my 20's!!
Also lots of dc teeth from about 20 odd years ago!

DareDevil223 · 28/01/2019 20:05

They gave me my gallstones in a plastic container (they really were rather pretty, like decorative gravel and so many!) but over the years they disintegrated.

I still have DS's birth wristband and the umbilical clamp/clip thingy Smile

crunchie12 · 28/01/2019 20:07

Umbilical cord - it's in a sandwich bag

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 28/01/2019 20:09

My Gall stones too! Snap!

What is the strangest thing you have kept?
E20mom · 28/01/2019 20:14

Also umbilical cord. But my OH kept it not me. Although it is in this house somewhere which I'm not too happy about.

ChickiePeaPie · 28/01/2019 20:15

The teeth I had removed for braces as a teen back in 1999. I boxed them up and left them among some old stuff back in my parents' house. They found them and posted them to me without warning, and DH opened the parcel.

The memory of the scream cracks me up to this day...

BooseysMom · 28/01/2019 20:18

I've got DS's baby wristband too..but not the umbilical cord ! Oh and I kept a few of his first nails I cut and a few locks of hair! So nails would be the strangest thing I guess. They were so tiny though!

Maelstrop · 28/01/2019 20:32

Not me, my mum kept my baby wristband-almost 50 years ago!

Felyne · 28/01/2019 20:32

I have all my children's' baby teeth. Not that I want to necessarily keep them but it feels wrong to throw them away...

Hardyloveit · 28/01/2019 20:50

I've got the kids wristbands from the hospital etc

Also have a tarantulas skin (haha) was the first time she shed her skin and it freaked me out as they come out while and I thought I had miraculously got another! It's so detailed!

BooseysMom · 28/01/2019 20:55

@Felyne.. do you have a special container for them? I have ones with First Curl for hair, First Hand and Foot Print and First Tooth which haven't got to yet. I had to put the nails in with the hair wrapped up in tissue. Yes I am crazy Shock

Plaiceholder · 28/01/2019 21:05

My faith in humanity.

CookieSwirlC · 28/01/2019 21:15

I have my girls wristbands and cord clamps with little bits of umbilical still in them, and a tiny little hospital bandage hat thing that was first put on dd2 that’s got a bit of blood and gunk on still.

Dd1 has recently started losing her teeth they are being kept in a little bag by me.

My mum kept all of our teeth and my sister broke her leg when she was 2 or 3 and my mum kept the cast for years. It was minging.

INeedToGetHealthy · 28/01/2019 21:22

@onelittleclara I remember the rats tails hair style, I'm also showing my age.

@Iputthescrewinthetuna Those are impressive

An 8 year old snowball in my freezer from the first snow after my niece was born. When my old freezer broke down I didn't give a stuff about the salmon, venison and fish fingers, I just wanted to keep the snowball.

weegiemum · 28/01/2019 21:35

I have a kidney stone and hair from my dcs first haircuts. No umbilical cords here!!

fridacakehole · 28/01/2019 21:36

Not the thing that is strange but more the manner in which I have preserved them!

All of my children's milk teeth neatly labelled with a date and story of how it came out - in an album with a pocket for each tooth!

Too much?!

3boysandabump · 28/01/2019 21:43

I have some of my milk teeth and all of my kids milk teeth that have fallen out so far. Also have their umbilical cord stumps.

My dsis has a piece of cotton wool which she used to clean up her ds first poo which I think is a step too far

FrankiesKnuckle · 28/01/2019 21:49

I was called weird the other day for admitting that I too have my child's cord clamp with a piece of cord still attached! Glad I'm not the only one!
It doesn't smell or anything, it's like a piece of plastic really.

I also have quite a lot of my own teeth - some removed for braces and my big bastard wisdom teeth.

DareDevil223 · 28/01/2019 21:49

When my lovely mum died we had to clear out a lot of stuff and she had kept everything all four of us kids had ever done. She had all my school reports, cards that I made for her, poems I'd written etc.

I cried my eyes out and the love that had made her keep all these things that were obviously so precious to her Sad
