28 days sober

Not that I was a big drinker before, but decided to reign myself in after the excesses of the festive season and try this dry January. Going well haven't fancied a drink even when my little horrors darlings were pushing my buttons.

So now on day 28 and wondering when I'll start to feel the benefits of going alcohol free. I haven't lost any weight, don't have this clear-headedness that people talk of, still tired (although that could be the thyroid problem). Basically was expecting to feel better but can't say I feel any different. Does it come to a point where the benefits kick in or is it all a myth?

If you weren’t a big drinker before why would you feel loads of benefits of not drinking? How much did you drink before?

Pinkvici22 · 28/01/2019 07:39

I feel the same. I had a drink or 3 most days over Christmas and through Oct-Dec I was having a binge probably once a week and 2/3 glasses of wine on another 2 nights per week.

I have lost some weight (but I’ve been eating better and exercising more too), but haven’t noticed any other benefits.

I'm a take it or leave it kind of girl and would generally have a few spirits and mixers maybe once or twice a month. Over Xmas though I went through a litre bottle of spirits in a week along with prosecco and cocktails. I was enjoying myself but horrified at the amount my consumption was creeping up hence why I decided to take a break. I'll stick with it though as genuinely not missing it.

You drank once or twice a month and are expecting to feel transformed by not doing so?

HighlandWorrier · 28/01/2019 08:03

I said once or twice in general but over the last couple of months a lot more.
