God I hate that programme. It and last of the bloody summer wine can just fuck off off my telly.

elephantoverthehill · 27/01/2019 21:12

It is what it is. It helps me to relax, so I kind of enjoy it. I don't need to have my brain fully engaged.

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 27/01/2019 21:20

I've always enjoyed it for the same reason and it did have a certain charm but imo they have picked the wrong person
And stop moaning about being lovely especially when someone has just got engaged
And of course the bigger girl is a fool

I've never understood the appeal tbh - it's very old fashioned.

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 27/01/2019 21:24

I love a happy civilised murder
Not all the dark stuff like Luther or Sherlock
Give me Vera, Midsomer murders and Father Brown any day. Where murder is much more pleasant

I think much of the humour has gone out of it since Duane left - there were many funny back stories involving him. The new series has very weak storylines and few sub-plots or back stories.

I can’t really warm to the Jack Mooney character, and much preferred Humphrey and the original guy ( names escapes me).

Also, would anyone really go on holiday to a Caribbean Island that had more murders than Detroit and New Orleans combined? It wouldn’t look good on the posters in the Travel Agents.

MsRosewater · 27/01/2019 21:37

I watch just for the incongruous opening scene when they do the jarring launch from finding the murder victim (suitably somber) to mad upbeat Caribbean theme music- cracks me up

Apart from that it's awfully stilted

CommunistLegoBloc · 27/01/2019 21:40

They’ve tried to recreate Duane’s capers with Ruby and it’s really fallen flat.

3out · 27/01/2019 21:42

Is Duane never coming back?

I enjoy the prog though, it’s very easy on the brain.

BackforGood · 27/01/2019 21:43

I love it!
Was so excited to see it back a couple of weeks ago.
Though I haven't yet taken to Ruby.

Of course it is unrealistic.
It isn't grim or gritty. That's why I like it.

(I'm also pleased to see the return of Call the Midwife - so that probably set the bar of what I like..... 'Light entertainment' I think they call it Smile)

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 27/01/2019 21:47

It just isn't working for me
The other two pulled off the English geeky character and, yes, Duane played a good part
Jack and Ruby are not doing it

@MsRosewater that's also why I watch it, it's so inappropriately jolly! I keep expecting the jaunty music to come on at the start of other crime dramas I watch

It's pretty ridiculous but I like the scenery

bellabelly · 27/01/2019 21:51

I love it.

Celebelly · 27/01/2019 21:54

I started to lose interest when Camille left and now Duane is gone, I just can't work up any enthusiasm to watch it. I don't think it'll last long without him tbh.

GrumpySausage · 27/01/2019 21:57

I've always been a fan but I've had two conversations with people who say this series has lost something.

Me and DH normally watch interested but we both fell asleep watching the first episode this series. (We're only 32!). Didn't bother picking it up after but I did watch this weeks and I'm struggling to care about the new girl. It does miss Duane.

ShahOfSplosh · 27/01/2019 21:58

I announce "murder most jolly!" over the music.

Wonder if Duane was called Duane after Dwayne Dibbley but cba to google.

Not sure about Ruby yet but it took me a whole series of Dr who for me to "get" Matt Smith so I've not ruled it out yet.
Surely the fun is in "oh look, it's that guy from Atlantis / Dutch from Killjoys / whatsit from thingummy jig - carshare! Who's that? I'll have to google it - flipping Heartbeat! How did we not recognise him?!"

Normandy144 · 27/01/2019 22:07

I love it. Enjoying the new series. The fact the characters are interchangeable is what helps i think. I like the formula and it's nice and sunny in January.

EvaHarknessRose · 27/01/2019 22:10

I love it because we bond over it in our family for some reason.

JustAnotherSod · 27/01/2019 22:27

It cracks us up - not what it's meant to do I suppose, but the police seem to investigate no other crimes but murder and you have to wonder what the FCO advice for travel would say about crime on the island!

SmellsLikeAdultSpirit · 27/01/2019 22:38

They never spend any time with friends or family either. And nobody locks up the police station

OP posts:
Luckingfovely · 27/01/2019 22:47

I've loved every series to date, but this one is not catching me yet. Jack is not so funny any more - and Ruby is just dreadful. And I miss Dwayne!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 27/01/2019 23:07

It was at its best when Kris Marshall, Danny John Jules and the girl who played Camille were on.

It’s shite now.

musicinspring1 · 27/01/2019 23:12

Is Duane coming back? Was he doing strictly when it was filming ? I agree this series is the worst and I’m a fan. I like the jaunty nature and the fact the killer is always in that opening scene , and mostly the most famous one Grin

musicinspring1 · 27/01/2019 23:13

And yes Camille was a better character than Florence , but I also find it hilarious they just replicate the characters when one leaves ! And so blatantly !

BackforGood · 27/01/2019 23:24

I do like the game of trying to work out where I know all the actors from. I'm hopeless at it, but get excited when I 'get one' Grin
