Horrible virus - feeling sorry for myself

frogbull · 27/01/2019 19:49

I know there are far worse things that can happen , but I've got a stinker of a virus and feeling sorry for myself. Aching all over, coughing, exhausted, can barely walk. Anybody else? And what makes you feel better? So far I'm just downing orange squash, can't face food.

Thanking my lucky stars that tomorrow is a work day so at least I can call in sick. Got the kids at home Wednesday onwards, need to be well by then.

I hardly ever get ill, so I am really rubbish at it.

Had this last week OP and felt exactly the same so I feel for you 💐. My kids now have it and hubs is starting with it so our house is not a happy one. Not much made me feel better. I managed a day to myself when called in sick and without that I do not know what I would have done so definitely make the most of tomorrow. Fluids and rest. Lots and lots of rest. I hope it passes quickly. Get all of your fav things if you can 💐💐💐

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 27/01/2019 19:55

I had similar last week. It was only a cold but I felt dreadful. Lots of sleep, warmth, hot drinks and paracetamol. I really couldn't have worked in the first 48 hours

frogbull · 27/01/2019 20:13

Hope the kids don't get it, or if they do, it's after I'm better so I can look after them.

So glad I can call in sick tomorrow.

DS2 had this last week. He felt absolutely rotten. Bunged up and sore throat but felt weak, couldn't eat and spent 4 days in bed.

bluddleuddleumdum · 27/01/2019 20:35

Same here op. Aching and coughing for three days now. Been in bed the last 48 hours. Just squash and sleeping. Calling in sick too tomorrow.

Lostlily · 27/01/2019 20:40

and another one. Been poorly since last Thursday and off sick all weekend and will be off sick tomorrow. I've taken day nurse and last night I had night nurse, it made em feel literally 'drugged up' this morning when I woke up . I could hardly walk!
My head and back is aching from coughing so much. Going on holiday next week so just want rid of it

3in4years · 27/01/2019 20:40

Yes I have it and feel similarly sorry for myself. I wish dd would just go to sleep so I can have a bath and crawl into bed. Hope you feel better soon.

fruitpastille · 27/01/2019 20:46

I have had the exact same thing. Felt it coming on Thursday but managed work. Then felt like crap while at home on Friday, Saturday. I couldn't do anything which is v unusual for me. Bit better today but I have really awful hacking cough/sore throat but probably just about well enough to go to work again by tomorrow. Annoying. And now dh is starting with it...

fruitpastille · 27/01/2019 20:50

I took max dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen and drank honey and lemon or mint tea. Ate crumpets and grapes.

This eve I've had some red wine to ease the cough so definitely on the mend Grin

frogbull · 28/01/2019 06:37

Hope everybody feels a bit better this morning. I've got kids dressed, which knackered me out, so now bed again.

I'm just on my way out of it today and planning to go back to work, and DP has come down with it. Argh.

frogbull · 30/01/2019 17:33

Oh God, never felt so ill in my life. School age child has caught it now and was at home today, along with two pre-schoolers, and just me to care for everybody. I've not eaten in about four days and can barely stay upright. It's just a flu bug but I've never felt like this before. DH is doing his best, but can't take annual leave in his job and we may need him to take caring leave if the two youngest get it. No family at all nearby.

I know it's pathetic, but I've been crying my eyes out a few times today. I feel so wretched.

(I am aware many people have it worse. I'll be better in a few days. I'm just feeling sorry for myself.)

I've had it for nearly a week - am certain it's flu. Haven't felt as ill as this for about 30+ years. And I feel very weepy as well - it's a normal symptom of flu.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 30/01/2019 17:50

I fell on the ice on Thursday (ironically trying too hard to protect my dodgy back, hips and pelvis) and ripped my bicep muscle so am in sling. DC2 has had the virus since Sunday and today I have succumbed to it too. Argh roll on summer! Hope everyone feels better soon! ThanksCake

Beaverhausen · 30/01/2019 17:54

Count me in ladies. Started feeling ill Saturday spent day in bed had some night nurse, sunday thought yeah fèel so much better. Monday bedridden, Tuesday feel like the walking dead, today a bit better but no energy and bloody night nurse is doing nada!

wendz86 · 30/01/2019 17:55

I’ve had something like this starting today . Throat hurt when I woke , then been coughing , my chest hurts from coughing and my body has started aching all over . Hope you all feel better soon .

Lycanthropology · 30/01/2019 17:55

Yep, been there. I came down with it on New year's day. It was awful and went on for ages. I've not been that ill for decades. I slept semi upright with a neck pillow, so I didn't choke to death on phlegm. It was really grim.

My sympathies to anyone suffering at the moment Flowers

frogbull · 30/01/2019 20:38

Feel better soon vibes to all of you who are also suffering.

Just had a panic attack because my sinuses are so blocked, I blew my nose and then couldn't catch my breath. Bit scary, not had one of those in years. I feel really shaken.

Hangingtrousers · 30/01/2019 20:42

I'm nearly over this and sadly didn't come on a work day so normal child care... It was hell. Never felt so grim.
DH has it now .. he is calling in sick tomorrow and will have a nice child free day in bed. Angry

Hangingtrousers · 30/01/2019 20:43

Oh and pregnant so no good drugs. DH gets the nice string drugs.

bluddleuddleumdum · 30/01/2019 21:43

I'm definitely better during the day now (started last Thursday) but as 6pm approaches every day back comes the cough to drive me sodding insane. Worse and worse till bedtime despite cough mixture, cough sweets, inhalers. Wheezing like an old pair of bellows now till I fall asleep exhausted then easing off in the morning again. I'm even considering buying a nebuliser

3in4years · 30/01/2019 22:29

Sounds like you need antibiotics and rest OP.

MargotLovedTom1 · 30/01/2019 22:39

Antibiotics won't do anything for a virus though.
Dd has this - started on Saturday and she's been off school Mon, Tues and today. Had her to the doctor today because she looked like death warmed up last night, and I was starting to get a little concerned. She was grey faced, and purple under the eyes with hot, clammy skin, and was shivering violently with freezing cold hands and feet. Dr said it's a cold along with viral laryngitis.

3in4years · 30/01/2019 22:53

Your poor dd! I have only had flu once and had sinusitis and tonsillitis with it. I was bedridden for days but when they gave me antibiotics I got better very quickly.

MargotLovedTom1 · 30/01/2019 23:02

Oh God, tonsillitis is awful isn't it. Thank the Lord for antibiotics trying not to think about future resistance possibilities.
