Restaurant recommendation - like Bill's but nicer

Looking for a nice restaurant in Central or North London for dd's 16th birthday.

She is VERY fussy with food. She likes the chain Bill's so I was thinking somewhere like that but more upmarket. Preferably somewhere they will serve a nice (but plain-ish) chicken dish, and nice desserts.

Any thoughts please?

Cote?

Simonsaysitschristmas · 27/01/2019 18:08

One of the Ivy cafes?

lurker101 · 27/01/2019 18:11

The Ivy have got a brasserie chain now with quite a few in central London. It would probably hit the ticket for a more upmarket Bills feel. Here’s the menu for Kensington but there is also one in Covent Garden

Chicken Shop! So much fun and very handsome staff.

The chickens roast on a spit behind the bar and you just get that and chips and a couple of sides. It's absolutely delicious chicken, really good.

My DC love it www.chickenshop.com/

I was coming on to suggest the Ivy chain

twosoups1972 · 27/01/2019 18:25

The Ivy chain looks nice but dd doesn't like the look of the menu

Remember you can modify what’s on the menu- so no sauce or whatever. Chips instead of salad. Etc.

caffeinebuzz · 27/01/2019 18:36

Tramshed could be a good option. A bit trendy but with a simple menu (share the chicken & chips). Never had a pudding there though.

Comefromaway · 27/01/2019 18:41

When we go toLondon we have ds who only eats pizza, chips or flush fingers, me who only eats plain steak, chicken or cod, no sauce & dd who eats everything!

We usually go Italian as many of them will do me a plain chicken or steak with chips if you ask. The only ones I can recommend are in Leicester Square though (we are usually pre-theatre)

Côte brasserie you can ask if they will do their grilled chicken without the sauce & you can pay extra for fries instead of potato gratin.

Cafe Rouge do half roast chicken but it is marinated in garlic/herbs (I always have steak instead)

PotteringAlong · 27/01/2019 18:43

If she likes bills why not just go there? It’s her birthday and you know she’ll enjoy it. You’re over complicating this one!

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/01/2019 18:46

Blixen spunds a good fit. Lovely non-alcoholic drinks
Sardine - French but not fancy French (wonderful food)

runoutofnamechanges · 27/01/2019 18:55

Joe Allen's in Covent Garden?
www.joeallen.co.uk/about-joe-allen/

The Savoy Grill - not as expensive as you might think (but not cheap either)

Butlers Wharf Chop House (not quite central but nice views of the river and Tower Bridge)

Lampshadylady · 27/01/2019 18:56

Tramshed is really nice. Ivy is decent. Otherwise does she eat steak? Could try Goodmans or Hawksmoor.

Cote is not upmarket!!

twosoups1972 · 27/01/2019 18:58

pottering dd wants to go somewhere different to Bill's!

Or Brasserie Zedel in Soho

Catalicious · 27/01/2019 19:00

Try balthazar?

Simonsaysitschristmas · 27/01/2019 20:12

Ah what a shame, thought Ivy would be a winner as they do plain chicken. Maybe Côte Brasserie as PP have suggested.
