I have a feeding/sleep question I was hoping you could help me with; I have 2 week old little boy. The health visitor said I don’t need to set alarm at night anymore to feed him, so I’m just going off his feeding cues. He quite often will grizzle and make feeding cues at night but when I turn the night light on and go to pick him up I’m pretty sure he’s asleep (even though he is making the feeding cues with his mouth). The noises are different to the normal sounds he makes in his sleep (I know newborns are just noisy sleepers anyway) and I’m sure they’re feeding cues. I don’t want to teach him to sleep poorly by waking him up to feed him, but I don’t want him to not be getting enough milk or to be going hungry either. I’m not sure if I should I wake him when he does this? Try to feed him in his sleep? Let him sleep and wait until he cries so I know he’s awake? I don’t want him to have to cry unnecessarily, but there’s no difference between the feeding cue sounds he makes in his sleep and the ones when he’s awake. At the moment I’m turning on the nightlight light to see if he’s actually awake every time he makes the cues, which means that even though he’s sleeping I’m still up every 10 minutes! Any thoughts on what strategy I should take? Thank you!
