Matt emulsion on silk

My brother very kindly repaired a crack on my lounge ceiling while I was on holiday, and then painted over with silk. I am struggling to cover with matt emulsion (white on white) - it just keeps shining through. The area is approximately 8ft long by 1 ft wide. Any ideas?

There's a paint called zinsser cover stain that I've always found great at covering everything, that might work? I've used it over damp patches etc when it shows through emulsion. I got it in screwfix if you have one near you. I called them first and the woman on the phone was really helpful in telling me whag shed recommend etc.

Have you tried sanding it down before painting?

I would sand it down first and then repaint, you will probably need to do the whole ceiling or you’ll always notice one patch looks different.
