Can anyone identify this ballet film <SPOLIERS>

This has been annoying me for years!

I can only recall bits. I saw it once on television in Northern Ireland but I think it is an American film. It was in the late 80s or early 90s. Female ballet dancer meets a man, businessman I think. She falls in love and he wants her to move away but in the end she can’t bring herself to leave the ballet.

At the end she is meant to meet him at the train station /airport/coach station and the final scene is her in class with tears streaming down her face.

I think it’s a remake or similar story to The Red Shoes but much newer than that. For some reason it always stuck with me.

Is it Étoile (aka Ballet), made in 1989, starring Jennifer Connelly?

Thanks so much for your reply but I don’t think it is, it doesn’t sound or look familiar. Just googled Etoile and I don’t think it was quite as deep / surreal as that. I think it was just a simple love of ballet vs romantic love film.

Also I think the ballerina was blonde but can’t be sure.

Any other guesses?
