Showing cinema films on TV mid - late 80s

Does anyone know how long one of the UK tv channels had to wait before they were allowed to show a film that had come out in the cinema, mid 80s? I have 2 years in my head but no idea if that's right or am I thinking of when it could go to video? These days it's about 2 minutes.

Just trying to work out how old I would have been if I saw a film on tv that had been released in the cinema mid 80s.

There used to be a set time didn't there? I remember, it seemed like so long!

Yes definately. I remember the thrill of discovering a film was going to be on the telly, especially at Christmas. I still remember the excitement when Indiana Jones was on for the first time.

It was like 2 years and then Sky came and cut it to 12 months and there was uproar about it

I thought it was more like four years?

I feel like it took a full year for the VHS release

Was it four? Surely 2?
