Shortbread

I’m in two minds.

I’m making shortbread biscuits for a friend. Should I dip them in chocolate to cover half of each biscuit, or leave them nude?

I don’t eat biscuits, so I’m ambivalent- but would like some experienced biscuit eaters opinions.

Oh god I love homemade shortbread. Half and half maybe?
Pure shortbread is amazing with tea but chocolate shortbread is soooo nice!

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/01/2019 15:48

I'd say leave, home made shortbread is so gorgeous as it is.

FrederickCreeding · 26/01/2019 15:49

I'd say half and half too.

Sounds amazing!

Ok. So half and half is looking like the best option.

I’ll come back later when they are done. They are baking as I type!

No chocolate. Home made shortbread is amazing. It doesnt need anything added.

WinterHeatWave · 26/01/2019 15:57

Really rich shortbread doesn't need chocolate.
3 parts flour, 2 parts butter, 1 part sugar biscuits can often be improved with chocolate, tho they are perfectly edible on their own.

GottenGottenGotten · 26/01/2019 15:57

No chocolate. Shortbread doesn't need it.

TheFaerieQueene · 26/01/2019 15:59

Well now I don’t know what to do 🤪

Half chocolate half no chocolate

Watching here in the hope of a shortbread recipe and a pic of your concoction

No chocolate. If you've gone to the effort of making lovely buttery shortbread, adding chocolate makes it too sickly sweet and detracts from the nice crumbly texture.

Heratnumber7 · 26/01/2019 16:11

Recipe please! I can't make good shortbread, although I'm a good cook generally

TheRhythmlessMan · 26/01/2019 16:13

Is successful shortbread reliant on how you knead the mixture, like scones? As in, if you do it too much it loses its lightness or some rubbish like that?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/01/2019 16:13

No chocolate. If you want to gussy it up, make something else. Shortbread is perfect as it is.

except when I make it with the leftover brandy butter after Christmas

TheRhythmlessMan · 26/01/2019 16:17

Ghaw!!! Brandy butter? Now you're talking!

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 26/01/2019 16:20

i think shortbread is mainly reliant on good ingredients...decent butter and fresh flour, and getting the oven right.

too hot and they are too crisp and too coloured, not hot enough and they can be pale yet cardboardy

I haven't made any for ages, dd used to love making it when she was small....and hers was always lovely, crisp, but melty.

This isn't REAL shortbread, but if you do want a chocolate hit these are really fabulous

Othewise I use this recipe with or without the ground almonds....sub extra flour for that instead

TeddyIsaHe · 26/01/2019 16:21

Put lemon zest in the shortbread mix and dip them in white chocolate. AMAZING.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 26/01/2019 16:22

oh brandy butter.....and i was trying to work out if I could get away with slathering the left overs on my toast.

TheFaerieQueene · 26/01/2019 16:25

Ok. Consensus is no chocolate

This is the recipe

Shortbread is my weakness. Definitely leave them nude. And that's also coming from a chocolate lover!

TheRhythmlessMan · 26/01/2019 16:51

OP I accidentally read your previous post- thought you were referring to Mr Hollywood's dicky link!

WinterHeatWave · 26/01/2019 17:50

To make really short shortbread, I put in a small amount of rice flour in place of the flour.

Heratnumber7 · 26/01/2019 18:52

Thank you for the recipes. Can't wait to try them out.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 26/01/2019 18:56

I make nice vegan shortbread, could easily eat the whole tin
