Odd question, how do you make straight hair bushy?

DD1 wants to be Hermione for Book Day, very original I know but she is an HP obsessive. She has very long thick dark hair and she wants it to be bushy for the day. How would we achieve this? It does go crazy when it's been in plaits for a few days but at 11 this doesn't really work anymore because it needs more frequent washing. Anyone have any ideas please? TIA.

Back combing?

Miane · 26/01/2019 10:39

I put it in curls then brush through, back comb and used a lot of hairspray.

Curl or crimp it... then brush that out, and add in some backcombing if it’s not big enough.

That’s what I’d do, I think.

I used those zig zag crimpers. Do the underneath too and when you're finished, head upstairs down with a hairdryer and a quick squirt with hairspray. Worked a treat 👍

Birdie6 · 26/01/2019 10:43

The night before, I'd wash it, then partially dry it. Put a lot of mousse into the hair and then make lots of plaits all over her head. By the next morning it will have dried into a fluffy "bushy " look. Have fun !

Curls seem to fall out of her hair but crimping (with possible backcombing) might work... We're going to need to be up early that day! Thanks Smile

Rag rolls! Lots of small ones. Sleep with them in overnight with fairly damp hair

museumum · 26/01/2019 10:44

I’d have thought for most sleeping in wet plaits then combing out should do it.

Rockbird · 26/01/2019 10:45

Little plaits were my first thought. She'll be so pleased if this works!

I would plait it like a pp suggested take them out bit of back combing she willbe good to go I wouldn't wash it because it will be too soft.

Crimping will do it and give the look you need.

Dd has long straight hair. Occasionally we crimp it (it in lots of smaller sections) and it looks 3x as big. Looks brilliant.

Bumblebee39 · 26/01/2019 10:56

If you want it to be bushy without looking curly or crimped, you crimp the underneath at the roots and back comb it, then leave the ends and top layer straighter.
Lots of back combing, lots of hairspray- it makes the hair sticky so it holds
My hair is fine and straight and curls fall straight out. Even plaits hardly crinkle it. The only thing that works for a whole day is crimping and hair spray.

PorkPatrol · 26/01/2019 11:54

Plait it in little plaits very slightly damp then brush it in the morning. Bit of backcombing and some hairspray.
Reminds me of when my dd went to a fancy dress thing as Hermione and someone said ‘oh look she’s even done the hair as well!’. Nope, her hair is naturally just like Hermiones 😂
