And can comment if they would let their 11 year old see it?

I've just read the parents guide on IMDb and it doesn't sound in the same league as Deadpool

I’ve seen it - it’s more on the ilk of the Terminator generation of films - there are a couple of bits that make you jump but we were laughing at it. I’d have no problem with an 11 year old watching it, and I’m not generally blasé about films.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 26/01/2019 09:53

Sorry, I thought you meant the 80s black metal band -was going to say no one of any age should be subjected to that.

I haven't seen the film, but it's rated PG, so depending on the 11 year old probably fine. The description makes it sound pretty cartoon-y

pepperjack · 26/01/2019 09:56

It's not PG, it was 15 in the UK. They changed the rating at the last minute.

@SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed it's rated 15 in the UK... it's a PG-13 in USA.

OP I've seen it & will happily let my 11yo DS watch it once it comes on Sky without having to pay for it.

I saw it at the cinema and loved it. It's a 15 because it's just a bit more brutal and gory than the normal marvel movies. I would let my 12 year old watch it but she says it looks too scary for her. Which is fine.

It is very very different to deadpool. My daughter knows she's not allowed to watch that until she is 40 Blush

pepperjack · 26/01/2019 10:04

Yeah I switched deadpool off, just watching it myself. It was vile

I must have seen the US rating - if it's a 15 maybe not suitable for an 11 yo.

www.commonsensemedia.org/movie-reviews/venom

I really like the website common sense media. It has reviews from parents and kids and it is really quite enlightening in the differences.

I use it a lot when my DD asks if she can read certain books.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 26/01/2019 10:08

I see someone who has seen it says it might be fine. I dunno, I haven't seen it - just don't take him to see the band.

ATowelAndAPotato · 26/01/2019 13:42

We haven’t let our 11yet old watch it. He’s seen most of the marvel/dc films, but I think this one is just slightly too violent for him. He is a bit sensitive though!

pepperjack · 26/01/2019 14:05

See mines not the slightest bit sensitive.
I'd watch it myself beforehand, but I actually want to watch it with him.

Just watched it and we both loved it!
It's really not that dark and scary. Ive seen scarier things on the Flash or doctor Who
