Why Do Some Women Date/Marry Prisoners?

I binged the Ted Bundy documentary on Netflix last night...it's really good. During his trial a women he knows turns up, supports him in court then he asks her to marry him and not only does she say yes, she goes on to have a child with him whilst he's on death row.

Being of sound mind with fairy intact self esteem I just can't understand it. Ted was charming and handsome, no doubt and I'm sure it contributed to the amount of girls that were willing to go with him... but the knowledge of what he did overrides any attraction surely.

What's the psychology behind this attraction I wonder.

Low self esteem. Thinking they can be the one to "change" and "fix" a bad boy.

Lack of confidence with regular relationships, attention seeking, enjoy the feeling that someone is totally reliant on them, imagine themselves as a white knight.

I think it's a deeply rooted issue with self esteem and attachment that leads people to do this. Loneliness too I imagine, writing letters to a prisoner you literally have a captive audience with few other outlets who will shower you with attention. People rationalise it as romantic, lovers who are kept apart blah blah blah.

I always wonder this too. I agree with the above and also wonder if they feel special. Here is this man everyone thinks is evil but he is so nice to them, only they know the real him, only they understand him etc.

I always think too about the persons family, it’s bad enough when someone you love chooses a partner who isn’t good for them but a serious prisonor!

Because they can’t get a man in RL. The dynamic is weird with prisoners isn’t it? It’s not possible to have a full relationship and that’s what some women want; the picture the built in their heads rather than the actual man.

I wonder about the daughter they had. How must she feel.
