Places to eat in Venice

Off to Venice in a month or two with 10 and 12 year old. Have a fair idea of what we are going to do when we are there. But I was wondering if anyone had any tips on great places to eat?

Op when I went I was told all places round St Marks are expensive.

However there are amazing old 14th century chichetti bars everywhere! Dark wooden rooms with chixhrtti which is basically tapas...

Def look then up before you go...

We got loads of recommendations and we just could not find anywhere but the most famous places or places right on the broadest canals- maybe we are just directionally challenged!

Grin I am very directionally challenged, but as we go pre Brexit I'm trusting I still will have free data whilst abroad so can use GPS to find places!
We are going when the carnival is on so guessing it's going to be busy.

For a quick and inexpensive lunch I recommend Dal Moro's for fresh pasta to takeaway. The queue was out of the door when we went but it was worth it. We bought a box of pasta in sauce and a couple of drinks for about €10. The most difficult things were finding it in the first place and then finding somewhere to sit down and eat.

Sorry I can't remember any restaurant names but wander down backstreets - I found some lovely hidden places with very good prices.
You'll be called in by every restaurant you pass so don't let them tempt you in to see the menus.

Take the kids to Alaska gelato. It's a reasonable walk out from the centre but great gelato and excellent prices compared to the centre. It was in the next district from where we stayed so we did a daily detour to try a new flavour.

Thanks burps and woolybackswife.

And yes I guess I need gelato recommendations too the kids seem to eat it whatever the weather! Thanks whatamidoing
