Meeting 2 old friends in Birmingham this weekend. None of us know the city, it’s just geographically convenient. Would love some good restaurant recommendations for a relaxed catch up. Nothing too trendy - we are mid to late 30s and I am pregnant so not event drinking. And anywhere good for brekkie near New Street before we head off again on Sunday?

Bills do a nice breakfast and it’s just a short walk from the station

Hotel du Vin? A bit pricy but very nice.

Lots of nice pubs/eateries in the Colmore Row area - Lost and Found pub is good. Also very nice around the Brindley Place area and/or Mailbox. Where is your hotel?

There is every chain restaurant you can imagine in Birmingham Grin.

Cherry Reds, either for dinner or breakfast or both. Very near to both your hotel and station and it's independent. Great food and drink.

Was just coming to say Cherry Reds! Very good breakfasts!

The Plough in Harborne. It's a restaurant more than a pub, but a very relaxed atmosphere and mixed clientele. It's on the south west side of the city so depends where you are coming from, but easy to get to and to park.
All depends what you are after really.

We tried here just before Xmas - quite swanky (and you can pop into Harvey Nicks)

The canal house is fab. Great pub, canal views, walkable from city centre through the mail box or off of broad st.

MummaGiles · 25/01/2019 19:24

Thanks everyone. We’ve booked the Canal House.

Let us know what you think!!! Enjoy! Salt chilli pork kebab highly recommended!!!!!!!

I was going to say the Canal House but I’ve been beaten to it.

Love the hanging kebabs and the quirky cocktail glasses.

If you’re up for something a little different maybe try Digbeth Dining Club. Very fun relaxed and you can all have totally different dishes.

The Canal House was great. Thanks for the recommendation!
