Is this OK? Honesty box at work

Such a minor dilemma! But I know Mumsnet generally recommends unscrupulous honesty - so I thought I'd ask what you think of this:

I'm at work and really hungry. I have no change for the vending machine - I have no cash at all. I have to stay until 5pm.

In the kitchen there is a box of flapjacks and cakes for sale. They are in a box with a little honesty box for people to buy them.

Would it be acceptable to take a flapjack now, and put the money in for it on Monday?

Or would this be a terrible crime, and I should stay hungry instead?

I would do it.

Stick an IOU in if it makes you feel better!

Can't you just ask a colleague to lend you a fiver and have a proper lunch?

Write an I O U. We did on holiday when we wanted some eggs but neither of us had cash! We back the next day and paid up!

As long as you pay Monday, I don’t see the issue as who is going to know? It’s a box of cakes at work not like you’ve walked in to the supermarket.

Why didn’t you however bring lunch or a snack with you today?

I have had lunch. But I'm still hungry

Do it. Think about how much more productive you’ll be if you’ve had a flapjack —and aren’t mumsnetting about it— . It’s for work’s benefit to eat now and pay on Monday.

Who puts the cakes in ? Tell them if they are around if not an iou with a smiley face be fine. Don't be embarressed we all get hungry days

Do it, I’ve done it before with a neighbour who sells eggs outside their house. Left them an IOU and popped the cash in the next day :)

Thanks all. OK I'm going to go and get one! I've written a note but I'm going to sort of hide it in the food and hope no one notices it until I put the money in on Monday and can remove the note!
