Cloned Number Plates

We have received a parking charge notice and a congestion charge for an area at the other end of the country. The photos show the same kind of car and number plate as ours however it is obviously not ours as I was at work on the dates and use the car for work visits. I will obviously be appealing the charges. I just wondered if this had happened to anyone else and what the outcome was. We will be contacting the DVLA and have informally spoken to the police who have said that was the right thing to do.

This happened to my other half. He got quite a few fines. It was clear from the picture that it wasn't our car (different lights and bumper) we sent evidence in and I think we had to report it to the police. Then had to send photos and crime reference number. It all got sorted, thankfully

You need to report it to the police and get a crime ref number

Happened to us when someone claimed I crashed into them in another town miles and miles away

Eventually the driver of the car with the cloned plates was nicked for other crimes and their car seized

Thanks Ave. DH spoke to a policeman local to his work but it was just an informal chat. Which police force should we report it to. The one where the parking crimes were committed, the one local to where I live and the car is registered or the one where I use the car for work. Thanks.

Report it to the police where you live - I believe they should share the information with other forces

Happened to us - the cloned car managed to rack up a few parking charges and congestion charges.

I reported it at our local police station but was also advised to report it to the police covering the area where charges were being made.
