Help please! TMI + image - 31 weeks, is this my mucus plug?

Sorry to ask and in chat with a horrible image but hoping to catch anyone still awake.

31 weeks with first baby.

Is this the mucous plug? Should I worry? Had sex 24 hours ago, not sure if relevant but for the sake of completeness. On hold for local triage & assessment phone number JIC.

Thanks in advance, sorry again

Yeah, it is. But they do come away and reform occasionally. Nevertheless, mine didn’t so it’s worth keeping an eye on things. Are you high risk?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 24/01/2019 23:48

Yes it is Hope you can be checked soon

paniccentral · 24/01/2019 23:57

Thanks very much both.

MW on phone said she thinks from my description of it that it’s not and possibly thrush, which it definitely isn’t. I asked if there was anything to worry about and she said time will tell and to look out for pain, bleeding or more of a show. Not terribly reassured and seems pretty clear to me it’s the plug but if there’s no imminent problem tonight then I’ll ring my MW in the am and see what she says.

Feel very stupid as seems almost certainly connected to sex but didn’t realise it was that big of a risk.

Thanks so much again.

Sex can dislodge it but it might just be partial and they do regenerate quite fast. Good luck!

Thanks Candle good to know, will take it easy in that dept and hope for the best

Mucus plugs can be lost weeks before. I lost mine at 33 weeks and baby had to evicted at 41+11 in the end.
Unless there's other signs of pain/bleeding/baby not moving like usual- don't worry.

paniccentral · 25/01/2019 09:50

Thanks again all.

In case anyone else is following along or finds this thread - no not high risk and own MW says, as you all have, that it happens, it’s a bit early but might well keep happening (apparently there’s a lot of it) and in the absence of pain/bleeding/waters breaking there’s no action to be taken. She said to ring triage anyway if there’s more brown spotting but to expect more after sex (and fine to keep having sex) so only if it happens without irritation.

So anyway that’s that for now - thanks very much again all for your reassurance, helped a lot especially in the wee small hours!
