Does anyone put on foundation daily?

I feel a bit of a diva doing this but feel it makes all the difference. Just foundation and eyeliner seems to make me go from average/icky to like really really made up nicely.

Does anyone else wear foundation daily?

I've seen a lot of women wear mascara daily which I definitely don't do (mainly the hassle of taking it all off the lashes daily)

Yes, unless I'm ill or occasionally if I'm not leaving the house - but it makes me feel flumpy and a bit rubbish, I prefer to have it on. Basics are light foundation, concealer and mascara.

I just prefer how it makes me look - I have quite uneven skin tone and when not pregnant I always have one spot, so I like a light, even base.

Delatron · 25/01/2019 14:06

No, it used to look a lot better in my 20s. But then I was less healthy so needed to coverage it gave me without any ageing effect.

I find it ages me now (42g and sits in lines. I have quite a yellow skin tone and none are quite right. I spend money on facials, serums etc so my skin looks fine without foundation. If not better. I use a glowy primer if I’m going somewhere special and other make up such as mascara, lipstick etc but never foundation. I have freckles too so don’t like to cover them. Hate powder too.

Nope.

I have nice skin.

I wear foundation for bigger events like parties or doing a big presentation at work, or a pitch.

“I didn't until I discovered boots intelligent colour.”

I love it. It feels so light on my skin. I am lucky and have good skin so don’t really need the coverage. Maybe I need it less because I don’t wear it very often. In summer I just use a bit of facial tan instead.

Yes if I'm going out anywhere. Normally foundation, powder, blusher, eyeliner and mascara. If I'm not I sometimes just put abit of eye liner/mascara as I feel I look very plain/ill without something.

Yes, but only because as I’ve got older I’ve felt my features are disappearing. I go out first thing to do the school run without make up as I then go to the gym. But once back from that it’s shower and full make up.

In my 20s/30s I didn’t need make up and hardly wore it. Now it is a full face or I look dead. My eyebrows have got sparse and need filling in. Could never understand why my mum used to always do her eyebrows. Now I get it.

So for me, an age thing I’m afraid. I’ve also lost weight as I’ve got older (sadly creeping back on as I’m hitting menopause) and being slimmer means my face/neck are looking more gaunt.

Aging is rubbish.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 25/01/2019 16:43

Yup. I have shit skin, breakouts aplenty.

Wear foundation, blusher and mascara to go out the house.

InMyOwnParticularIdiom · 25/01/2019 17:03

I used to be appalled at the thought of leaving the house without a full face (foundation, concealer, powder, blusher, mascara and lipgloss) but now being SAHM to a 2 year old I'm lucky if I get concealer and powder on the t-zone before rushing out to some sort of toddler appointment!

SagelyNodding · 25/01/2019 17:09

I never did in the past, but wearing a fairly full face of make up means I look more 'together' at work. So, foundation, blusher, mascara, eyebrow pencil and eyeliner every weekday (eyeshadow and highlighter when I can be arsed).
Weekends are all or nothing depending on my plans!

DeadCertain · 25/01/2019 17:25

@Delatron your skin sounds similar to mine (and age). Could I please ask what primer you use?

Delatron · 25/01/2019 17:28

@DeadCertain I’m currently using Becca Backlight which is lovely. I also liked the Laura Mercier radiance primer. Anything to give a bit of a glow!

Delatron · 25/01/2019 17:33

It’s funny but I’ve found I need/ look better with less make up as I get older. Mainly as it just looks overdone and rubbish. All my old tricks don’t work! Can’t do a flicky eyeliner as it settles in the creases! Heavy eye make up also seems to age me. I look younger with less on. Agree about eyebrows, they have to be done. Blusher helps and mascara. Coloured lip balms look better than lipstick.

If I have a night out I spend more time making sure my skin looks good (face mask, lots of moisturiser) so I don’t need to pile it on.

DeadCertain · 25/01/2019 17:39

Thank you @Delatron I also have good skin and currently just wear a BB cream when I go out - but think a glowy primer sounds nicer (and better with the yellow tone and freckles like you mention).

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 25/01/2019 17:45

I’ve just started using it daily, at the age of 42, having hardly ever worn it before (like maybe about three times in my whole life) and being used to having very youthful looking skin. Just feel like I need a bit of help to lift it a little nowadays. But I use it sparingly and I apply with my fingers to ensure it’s a very light application - I can’t stand the feel of a lot of product on my skin, and I don’t want to cause any issues, having been used to clear, good skin.

So for the last month I have been doing the following:

moisturiser, illuminating primer, foundation/concealer, translucent powder, highlighter, bronzer, plus my usual simple everyday make up routine, subtle but it does make me feel a bit more put together. I used to be able to carry off doing not much at all to myself but I’m starting to really look tired and haggard.

I’m still not sure I’m entirely comfortable with doing this every day, though, because I don’t want to become dependent on it to feel good about myself and I don’t like playing into the expectation that looking good is something women ought to do.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 25/01/2019 17:48

And I do actually agree that on many people lots of product does act in an ageing way - it draws attention to the fact that one has made up one’s face (no matter how well one does it you can always tell), and covers up natural skin tones. I use it even though I’m aware of that because I am keen to have a slightly more even complexion these days, and also I don’t think ageing is bad - I am ageing, and actually I’m glad to have that privilege.

Bumblebee39 · 25/01/2019 18:50

I can't wear it every day my skins too sensitive plus I'm lazy

If I don't put some mascara on people ask me if I'm sick so that's mandatory

Otherwise, if the most I'm doing is running the kids to school/childcare and possibly the supermarket, I don't wear much (unless I have extra time or feel like it)

Whereas if I'm going somewhere nice (work counts these days 😂) and I'm not spending my day cleaning the bog and changing Nappies then I'll wear it.

Loka123 · 25/01/2019 22:44

Wow thanks everyone - a lot more replies than I thought I'd get on this :) and seems a lot of people wear foundation daily
