So all this is very new to me! Been reading through a few threads and struggling to understand the abbreviations Blush
Basically I wondered if it was possible to get pregnant 7 days before ovulation? We aren’t trying for a baby but I do track my periods on an app & it also has my fertile days and my date of possible ovulation.. my periods are regular and I’m always on time..
so we did the deed 24th dec which was a day before my fertile days & a week before my ovulation day.. I was due on my period 17th January and I did a test 2 days after (19th) I noticed I was late. I got a negative result.. I’m still not on my period.. when should I do another test? Is it possible to get pregnant a week before ovulation? I don’t have many symptoms, the only ones I can report are I’m so so tired all day, I have had a headache for days and I almost passed out at work Monday, my colleague made a sugar tea for me & fanned me Down she said I went pale.. I do keep feeling dizzy. I also have a lot of clear discharge every day.. I hate the wait game lol and I know these could all be symptoms for my period too.. I don’t understand the human body lol Confused

You can't get pregnant before you ovulate. Your Fallopian tubes need to release the egg for it to travel down, ready to be fertilised. So unless you got your ovulation dates wrong...

starryeyed19 · 23/01/2019 13:34

Plus, 2 days is too early to tell, I think. You need to be at least a week or so late. You can be a week late due to stress or something

ILoveMaxiBondi · 23/01/2019 13:37

Do another test now.

If you have sex before you ovulate you can get pregnant. Sperm lives for I think 5 days so for you it'd be pushing it unless you ovulate earlier than you think. Are you just assuming you ovulate on day 14? It should also show on a test if you are 2 days late but maybe test again I a day or 2 with first morning urine and a first response test.

Roselet · 23/01/2019 13:57

I am just assuming that’s my ovulation date as that’s what my app on my phone tells me.. this is all very new to me in terms of Dates and best times to get pregnant ect.. like I said we aren’t trying, we’re more, if it happens it happens, but just googling bits some says you have to have sex
On a certain day, others say between certain dates.. it’s a bit much for me to take in I think. Sorry if I sound silly x

Are you usually regular? It's possible you ovulated later than usual (or not at all) this cycle. Did you carry on dtd as normal or was 24th Dec the only time?

Roselet · 23/01/2019 15:18

I have been to the day for ages yes.. that was the only time we did it last year yeah x

When you say before you ovulate are you relying on an app which gives likely dates based on data you input or are you relying on signs of ovulation from you body and or an ovulation test?

If the former then you can’t rely on those dates you may well have ovulated early. Leave it a few days then test again

welcometonarnia · 23/01/2019 15:46

Take another test and use FMU (first morning urine)!

WildFlower2019 · 23/01/2019 15:47

My period tracking apps get ovulation wrong consistently. Two apps said I'd ovulate Fri/Sat this week but according to ovulation tests, I'm more likely to ovulate today or tomorrow (Weds/Thurs). This has been the case for three months straight now.

With that in mind, and the fact sperm can live anywhere up to 3-5 days in the "fertile window" before you ovulate, I think it is possible you could be pregnant. Especially as you had sex just one day before the window "opened", and now your period is late.

Take another one now, for sure. Tests are meant to be 98/99% accurate from the day you've missed your period.

If it's negative and your period still doesn't come, it can be one of the following:

  1. You are not pregnant but you didn't ovulate this month. It happens, it's fairly common.

  2. You are pregnant but aren't producing enough hormone to detect on a test. You might need a blood test instead. This happened when my mum was pregnant with my brother. Tests came out negative but he is testament to the fact she was pregnant!

  3. You are technically pregnant but implantation is going to fail and you will get a heavy period starting soon. Known as a chemical pregnancy. Basically a very early miscarriage and very very common.

  4. something else...

Either way, do a test and if it's still negative and your period doesn't come, visit your dr.
However, I think most will tell you to wait until you've missed 2 periods before they'll do any further investigations.

Roselet · 23/01/2019 15:48

Yeah I mean like a period tracker app on my phone.. so it tells me I am fertile for 5 days then ovulate On the 6th day..?
To be honest I’m not that In tune with my body to know when I’m ovulating I don’t think, I am not sure I would be able to tell.. Confused x

Thank you wildflower.. 2 missed periods? Wow that’s a long time to wait lol.. I think that’s the confusing part to me, when I ovulate.. women’s bodies are amazing but so confusing lol.. when I did a test before it was middle of the night so not the first wee of the morning.. I will get a test and do one again I suppose.. option 3 sounds awful Sad we aren’t trying but I know I’m ready x

Take another pregnancy test? A lot of clear discharge sounds like you could be ovulating now?

If you really want to know when you are ovulating, buy the ovulation sticks. They give you a little smiley face when you are ovulating so you know when to try to increase your chances.

Karigan195 · 23/01/2019 16:12

A lot of clear discharge is also a pregnancy sign as it’s the start of building the mucus plug and making sure there’s a good lining to protect the baby.

I think it’s possible but only time and a bit more testing will tell

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/01/2019 16:22

I'd test again, but I agree the discharge makes it sound like you might be ovulating now.

Are you okay with not actually trying? You sound pretty keen. It's alright to switch courses if you want to.

Roselet · 23/01/2019 16:38

That’s what so confusing lol discharge means ovulating but also means pregnancy. So I think the only way I am going to know is to wait and test.. I’m am keen to start a family yes, I am in my 30s now & I feel lm ready, but if it’s not this time then that’s ok, I’m a believer in there’s a reason for everything so if I’m not it just means the times not right.. I have always wanted to be a mum for as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted children & I know I would be able to provide so it wouldn’t be a bad thing Smile x
