Hair washing revelation

Last night I shampooed my hair in the shower as usual but then the water started to go cold so I didn't manage to use conditioner. I assumed I would rewash and condition this morning.

However, my hair feels lovely! Really soft and silky and sort of.. bouncy. Have I been religiously conditioning all this time totally needlessly?

Does anyone else not use conditioner?

The only time I had a shampoo bar it turned into a soggy mess - what am I doing wrong? I'd much rather use bars than plastic bottles, but it's the same with soap - soggy for ages then dries out and splits (and loses all the scent.)
If anyone can recommend soap and shampoo that don't do that I'd be really grateful!

I use Main & Tail shampoo and wash the roots, rinse the shampoo through the rest. I stopped using conditioner ages ago, only put it on sometimes now after a colour of some kind that might have dried it out, and even then it is only on the ends.

Used to use vinegar in cool water as a final rinse, in the days before conditioner.

Totally unnecessary and environmentally bad.

Maybe for your type of hair but, unfortunately, those of us who have extremely curly hair can't even get a comb through it without conditioner!

These shampoo bars don't turn into mush, and the Olive Oil soaps are also great! The soap dishes work really well to let the soap dry out without becoming a slushy mess :)

To stop soap and shampoo going soggy you need either a soap dish that drains the water away or a wire bathroom caddy thing. If you get the Lush tin it is only intended for travel, you shouldn't keep the shampoo bar in there all the time. We have a soap dish from Tiger with artificial grass in it which is brilliant.

This is so interesting. My hair feels fab tonight. I usually wash every other day but I'm confident I might be able to go 3 days. It's coloured so I'm not hopeful it will never need conditioner but I'm thinking the odd treatment rather than every wash.

I shall try a wash without fabric conditioner next!

Definitely feeling enlightened.

I can’t think of anything worse for my hair tbh!

I just shampoo and use a leave in conditioner and have found I can go three or four days now in between washes .

I've got a couple of those & yes, they're great.

I’m the opposite. Ditched the shampoo and only use conditioner now. Soap bars wreck my hair. I have naturally frizzy and very curly hair though
