Need "trendy" gift for girl, 8

DSil (who lives on a remote Scottish island with 2 shops) has DDs who turn 7 and 9 soon, and I've asked mum what they'd like as a present. A few months back I got them those sequin tops that change colour and on another occasion bought JoJo bows and some unicorn socks. Apparently I am now considered a style guru, and they have asked me to choose "something amazing and trendy" for them. Help!! What is trendy for 7/8/9 yr old girls? I know there's still a lot of glitter, unicorns and llama's around but what are the emerging trends for this age? My DD is 14, lives in black running tights and hoodies and claims to have no idea on junior fashions Hmm

I got my niece a tshirt from not on the highstreet, it’s black with a neon square on it that you can draw on, and is very cool apparently! Last year I got her a personalised varsity jacket (also NOTHS) which went down well. However, I may well live on the same Scottish island, and only have sons so my opinions of cool may not be bang onGrin

Mermaid tail blanket and things with a mermaid sheen
Doug the Pug merchandise from Claire’s
Scented stationary
Neon/glow in the dark/scented nail varnish
Pusheens - again, merchandise can be found in Claire’s

Any tat that's in the checkout aisle of newlook, Claire's accessories or Smiggle

River island do some nice trendy bits for kids. You have to wade through some tat but some good stuff there too. Leggings with the RI band go down well and little handbags

RD45 · 23/01/2019 06:49

Smiggle or Neon Sheep are my go to stores for things for DD.

IamChipmunk · 23/01/2019 06:57

My niece is 8. She loves River Island. I got her a voucher for Christmas.
If it can be toys then any of the LoL surprise stuff or a rainbowcorn...

pinkhorse · 23/01/2019 07:05

Try River Island. Smiggle is popular with little girls but not cool/trendy. My ds is 9 and says Smiggle is lame.

My 8yr old wants a hype backpack as all the cool kids have one seemingly!?

EggsRoyale · 23/01/2019 07:07

Zara kids is usually pretty trendy too.

A lot of 8 year old girls here wearing earmuffs with unicorn horn sticking up on the band across their head. Must be cold on a Scottish lsland at the moment . Come in various colours. Say from Primark.. Similiar in hairbands with horn up.
Also slime , slime and more slime. They never seem to tire of it.
Lovely to be able to send excitement to them.

Thanks - had no idea that River Island did younger kids: Some inspiration there - will deffo look in Zara when I'm in MK at the weekend too.

DD is 9yo and loves...

  • her Hype backpack (there was a MN discount code on the discounts bit of MN). It was a bit of an expense, but she takes it to school every day and covered the zips in random keyrings!
  • the pot of glow in the dark putty she got from Santa.
  • she would love glow in the dark nail varnish (off to find some now!)
  • cross body bags. She has a fairly sensible one but I think she'd definitely go for an animal shaped one.
  • fluffy watermelon purse

I've seen lots of kids at school with those hats with long dangly bits that you can put your hands in. Mostly girls wearing unicorn ones.

Disco ball for the middle of her room. You can get a battery operated one with a separate spotlight. My girls loved theirs( Freaked out the cat though)

Lush products, Good night Stories for Rebel Girls book.

Yes slime, i thought it had gone out of fashion a few months ago, but it seems to have made a comeback.
I would say smiggle scented key rings with their initial on.
Unicorn ear muffs.
Squashies.
