DH and I are watching suits and I'd love to know how realistic it is :o
(no spoilers please, we're not finished yet)

I enjoyed Suits, but it's far more high octane than reality. Also lawyers advise clients so a lot of the deals which are struck in meetings by Harvey just wouldn't fly, however brilliant he is.

Yup another lawyer here, great programme but flipping bonkers!

Thought as much, what a shame

I'm a lawyer. From my observations Suits and other shows take the exciting, dramatic bits of the job (they exist!) and multiply them to an absurd degree.

In reality the exciting bits are like 5% of the job.

The remaining 95% of the job are meeting with clients (enjoyable), going to court (enjoyable), rearching case law and drafting (interesting in a nerdy way), and updating records (boring).

I am, and I'm married to an investment banker. He likes Suits whereas I find it too fake to be enjoyable (unlike the Good Wife where some law is occasionally practised), but when Suits got to the season with the investment fund my husband was like "this series has jumped the shark! Finance is nothing like that!" ...no, it hasn't suddenly "jumped the shark", it was always totally ridiculous from the beginning.

It’s practically a documentary, just like Silent Witness is about crime investigation.

Gremlinsateit · 22/01/2019 08:26

It made me shout at the tv too much so I had to stop watching :) I particularly hated the episode where the junior drafted the patent application in one morning. Even if being a patent attorney weren’t a specialist job requiring a science background and additional training (I’m not one), you can’t draft an application in a morning.

EssentialHummus · 22/01/2019 08:32

Nah, it leaves out all the exciting bits like having staff at the nearest Pret know your order by name, and sneaking off to the client lavs for a poo.

eurochick · 22/01/2019 08:56

It's ludicrous. But decent entertainment.
