My DD23 and I are going to a Murder Mystery Party at a hotel on Saturday, it said costume optional (party clothes) the theme is "ill swing for you" and the music is Ella Fitzgerald, similar to this but another location :

We have decided to dress up and I want to get the right period, I am thinking, Charleston, Flapper dresses etc..is that the right era? We want to fit in and not look odd. If I type in swing dress I get all sorts of variations, and am not sure if I have got confused, any tips welcome, thanks

I'd say more 1930s than flapper (20s), so styling more like satin/silk longer cocktail dresses (or silk pyjama style trousers if you want to channel eg Katharine Hepburn!) but costumes might be a bit harder to find.

So jealous, this is my dream night out in dream period clothes!

Ella Fitzgerald more 40s actually so ignore my pp above!

So I'd go 40s or just about v early 50s but not Grease imo as that's more rock n roll rather than swing.

It's set in modern day so standard modern day party wear. It says that the band perform their own brand of swing classics and more modern day such as Robbie Williams.

Swing era was from mid 30s to mid 40s, jazz based big bands, Glen Miller, Artie Shaw, Tom Dorsey. Clothes were quite glamorous, draped satin featured a lot, think of Ginger Rogers style.

Grease was much later, 1950s.

Ok, so can I get away with my Christmas bling, that I wore last month?

Yes, your Christmas bling would work!

What style is the skirt of your outfit there?

Mormont · 22/01/2019 05:21

Yes you look great! As I said, it's set in modern day so no need to worry about the style of skirt.
