Just that really. Seem to have put a lot of weight on since my dose increased and can’t seem to shift it. Anyone else?

Yes, me, I piled on loads of weight and couldn’t shift it 😢
I only lost it when I got pregnant and had awful morning sickness 🙈🙈

UnalignedAnt · 21/01/2019 15:43

I gained around a stone, purely because I was less anxious about the consequences of eating what I liked.

I'm back on 5mg now after a break and that sneaky stone is harder to shift than the first time around Sad

I feel like I’m expanding before my very eyes. Diet same, exercise possibly more. Been on it for years. Beginning to mess with my head as history of eating disorders, but it’s probably good for my OCD. 😩😄. I’m wondering whether a change is needed in meds’

I don't think so, but I don't actually weigh myself...I just go by how my clothes fit and that hasn't changed. I'm on 30mg and haven't seen any significant side effects at all, fortunately.

Nutellaoneverything · 21/01/2019 22:04

Exactly the same here, I started citalopram nearly 2 years ago and have put on 3 stone, impossible to lose, so demoralizing

PseudoBadger · 21/01/2019 22:05

Oh god yes. I want to come off it but also don’t

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 21/01/2019 22:09

I didn't gain any and was really worried I would, from what I read it doesn't cause weight gain directly but as people's mood improves their appetite increases.

Nutellaoneverything · 21/01/2019 22:49

Wondering if there's a similar medication that I could take that doesn't cause weight gain. Can't take sertraline with the thyroid medication I take

Nutellaoneverything · 21/01/2019 22:51

Definitely not my appetite, I actually started Slimming World at the same time I started Citalopram and still had the weight gain

Empathy56 · 22/01/2019 00:52

I've been on 30mg for many years and have piled on the pounds.Wish I could come off it but scared incase I have a relapse.I was on 20mg but still became very badly depressed and lost 4 stone in a year,so the gp upped it to 30mg and I'm doing ok but have piled on the pounds again.Hmm

Empathy56 · 22/01/2019 00:53

Forgot to add,I have also been on high dose steroids too but now down to 5mg so that doesn't help with the weight either!

Atchiclees · 22/01/2019 01:37

Oh wow this is me! I’ve been on 20mg for 5 years and have gained about 2 Stone. I have been puzzled as to how because although I have pcos and do gain weight, i had stable weight for a long time. Had not thought about this. Might have to go back and see if I can get a lower dose to see if that works as my anxiety is better but my weight depression is worse as I am so fed up of looking like a potato when I am careful about what and how much I eat.

Tenementfunster · 22/01/2019 07:17

Thanks all for your experiences. It is a fine balance: I don’t want to get more anxious but I’m so down about the weight. So it’s sort of caused another problem elsewhere

Definitely Sad

Mrsjohnsonuk · 20/06/2021 16:29

I know this post is old but did you lose your weight? I'm exactly in your position. 20mg citalopram for over a year and gained 3 stone x even more depressed now.
