Past use by date sandwich

Got some bargains yesterday - an egg & cress sandwich that said use by 20th Jan will be absolutely fine today, won’t it?

DH always says that shops have to cover themselves & that food doesn’t just suddenly go toxic in one day lol. I always worry a bit about stuff like that.

I'd expect it to go a bit soggy before it got to actually dangerous, but would definitely eat a sandwich with yesterday's date on today.

so much salt in ready made sarnies it will last for days I reckon, as long as mostly kept refridgerated

I'd eat it. Yesterday I ate a chicken and bacon sandwich a day past the use by date and it was fine. I wouldn't if I was pregnant or had some other health condition though
