With Ikea? After a long absence (and by long I mean 2 decades) from work I have somehow managed to have someone at Ikea take an interest in me as a potential employee and so have been invited to a group stage interview in a few days time. I'm terrified because I haven't been through anything like this and have read reports that it can be tough. I'd be really grateful for any advice anyone who has experienced this, or similar can give me. For what it's worth I know I can actually do the job I am trying out for IF I can get through this process..I just don't know how to get through the process itself. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Not with Ikea by have had a group interview before. It was a couple of team building exercises, one of which was making a structure with dried pasta and marshmallows! They then took us out for individual ‘chats’ though yours may be different. At this stage they are probably just looking to see how you interact with others, do you completely take over and dominate everyone or hang back saying and doing nothing? Lasted a couple of hours altogether, overall it was fine.

Good luck op, I know it can be intimidating but i’m sure you will be fine.

Not with IKEA but the NHS. Sorry to say it was horrible and cringeworthy, especially as none of us had been told it was group interviews so hadn’t prepared. Had to do a group chat about what to take on a desert island, 3 ‘games’ and meet with a patient.

I didn’t get the job.

Thank you both very much. I am expecting it to be challenging and way out of my comfort zone (translation: absolutely terrifying Grin ).

I am at the point of wondering if whether I go in assuming I have not got the job I may then be able to relax more, and ironically do better at the whole thing.

With a charity, quite a long time ago. We had to discuss ideas in our groups and then afterwards the interviewers called on people individually for answers. Someone in my group took everything I'd said and repeated it word for word, so by the time I was called on I had nothing to say!

I didn't get the job. No idea if she did.
