If so, do you recommend?! I’m thinking of splurging

Ooooh watching with interest as I want one too!! Roomba? Robovac? iLife?

I've got a Roomba. It's one that you can control with the app, and set schedules etc. I set it going after tea once I've got kids in the bath. I highly recommend it. It works equally well on hard floors and carpets. It picks up a surprising amount of dust, not as much as the main hoover but I use the Roomba in the high traffic areas daily (kitchen diner, lounge, hallway). So that means I can use the main hoover for all the house just once a week. It takes quite a while to do a big room, but it does charge back up pretty quickly. Maintenance is easy and inexpensive.

I've spent a while researching other models. The Dyson one didn't have good reviews. the Roomba is quite pricey so if you wanted to buy a cheaper one I've heard Neato isn't bad.

I've also got the robot mop by the same company which is pretty good.

Interested to hear feedback- I really want one!

IamChipmunk · 21/01/2019 09:31

We have a neato. Its really good! I thought it was a bit of a gimmick when DH got it but its really useful. We mainly use it downstairs and it does hard floor and carpet. It picks up really well and you can set it off when you go out or upstairs via its app. Ours is also linked to Alexa so you can just tell her to start it.
The filters are quite expensive but its worth it. House seems much cleaner now its hoovered everyday and no extra effort required from anyone!

Glad to hear the Neato lives up to its good name too! I also thought it was a gimmick when my DH got it but love it now.

Forgot to add, Roomba also works with Alexa.

Watching with interest. Could people give the make and models that they have as I've looked at neato who appear to have lots of different types with differing prices Smile

thefirstmrsdewinter · 21/01/2019 10:22

We have Neato and I think it's a bit meh. If I was going to get another robovac I'd get one with the sweepers that clean right up to the edge. Right now in order to get a good clean I feel you have to go around and sweep the edges of the room first and then set the Neato on it.

I also don't think the suction is up to the task and notice a big difference in the results of Neato hoovering and Henry hoovering. Sometimes I have it go two rounds but it often leaves frustrating little piles of dust in random places, sometimes in the middle of the room.

Dh loves it but I think he likes to feel he's found a solution to a problem so he can tick it off his list. For me it just feels like an extra unsatisfying step.

My mum has a Roomba with the little edging sweeper brushes and I think she gets a much better result but she has all hardwood floors and we have jute rugs on our floors, so the uneven surface may be part of the problem.

If it sounds like I have very high standards, I really don't. :) If you're very tidy and your house is spotless I can see it helping keep that shiny finish on things in between proper cleans.

Ours is Roomba 960

Kikipost · 21/01/2019 12:13

Will they go down a stair? My dining room has a stair down to the lounge for example?

Thanks

I am a member of which
Where Best Buy is the dyson
Worst is Miele
Neato doesn’t score well
Roomba 980 does well

Just got a roomba 606 as our eufy 11 has died on us in less than 2 years.

They are great in my opinion particularly for wooden flooring which is hard to hoover normally.

New roomba seems to have a bit of a random pattern but it was the cheapest roomba available and I wanted a reliable brand after eufy breaking on us

Kikipost · 21/01/2019 12:42

@rookiemere

How does it fare on carpets?

OP posts:
rookiemere · 21/01/2019 12:57

kikipost pretty good although I had to close the door on it to allow it to do a thorough job on Dss carpet as quite thick.

Stupomax · 21/01/2019 13:49

We've got the Roomba 690 which was $279 from Amazon. It takes a lot longer to vacuum a room than if you did it yourself, but OTOH you really can just leave it to it.

You have to clean it out after every use as the container for storing debris is small, and periodically you have to take various bits off it and clean the hair and crap off them.

I could live without it fine TBH.

Slurpy · 21/01/2019 13:53

I have a Neato. I adore him. He's called Slurpy and he makes my life better.

Keeoe · 21/01/2019 16:58

@Aprilshowersarecomingsoon they are adorable 😍 Whippets? I have 2 retired greys. I'm a sucker for houndies of any size. Sorry for thread derailment.

chickydoo · 21/01/2019 17:09

I have a Roomba, best Hoover I have ever had
It picks up an amazing amount of pet hair and dust and fibres.
We are fairly open plan downstairs, so I switch it on & go out.
Comeback to clean floors & rugs.
Upstairs is done once every few days.
I open the bedroom doors & the Roomba just goes in and out each room until it's done.
I use a handheld Dyson on the stairs (when I need to)
Cleaners come once a fortnight and they use their own hoover.

Kikipost · 21/01/2019 17:23

@chickydoo

Works well on hard and carpet?

OP posts:
chickydoo · 21/01/2019 17:28

Yes, seems to. Even after 2 years still going strong

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 21/01/2019 17:29

Lurchers, both very good at vacuuming!!

Kikipost · 21/01/2019 19:31

@chickydoo

Which roomba do you have?

Thanks
