Hair loss after pregnancy!

So I am now getting worried about the amount of hair I’m losing after having my baby. Literally every time I take it out a ponytail, brush it, look at it, I’m pulling out clumps!! Anyone else have it this bad and not go bald? The futures looking bleak

I can’t offer much other than to say I’m right there with you, washing it is the worst for me!

Im currently 24 weeks and mine is coming out already! Hairdresser is really concerned about the amount I'm loosing but midwife isn't. It used to be so thick and now it's see through at the ends! When I brush, wash, dry, run my fingers through it it just comes out. Not looking forward to possibly loosing more after birth!! X

It's very normal after birth. My Hair loss was particularly bad after the birth of Dd. It does stop eventually

I read about this once and apparently what happens is that during pregnancy you stop losing hair (the way we all do every day), and then after pregnancy, all the hair your scalp was hanging on to sheds. So it's hair you'd have lost anyway, it's just all coming out at once.

Not losing hair while pg is why you get that lovely thick hair, and there's a theory that it's an evolutionary thing to stay attractive to men while you're pregnant, so that they'll stay and protect you!

I lost mine from 3 months pp and it stopped falling out at 7 months. Then some fell out again when I stopped breastfeeding but nowhere near as bad. Totally normal and not much you can do about it I'm afraid!

Rainatnight - and then once the baby is here and you look like a raddled old hag they'll take one look and bugger off to a different cave? Grin

Hmm - not sure about that theory :)
