Shall we preempt the gloom
How to cheer up?

What is Blue Monday? I am annoyed at being awake this early on my lie in day! Will it spill into tomorrow? 😱

HoraceCope · 20/01/2019 07:16

the third monday in january, before pay day, after Christmas, failed new year's resolutions, etc.,
it is just a day,
lets get through it
meant to be the saddest day of the year
as I am feeling gloomy already this weekend I need to cheer up, and I am sure i am not alone.

It is truly a made up load of nonsense.
Why should we be blue, because a travel company dictates it, wanting to sell holidays to 'cheer us up'.
Ignore it. Be happy.

HolyMountain · 20/01/2019 08:28

Don’t focus on the negative.

It’s the 21st of January tomorrow , past the halfway point of the longest month but it’s not Blue Monday.
10 days til payday Smile
The nights are drawing out , we’re getting closer to spring Flowers.

I tend to find the beginning of March far worse. I feel like winter should be well and truly over by then and it never is, and it feels as though it will never be warm or bright again.

BlueThursday · 20/01/2019 08:30

Clearly I’m more looking forward to Thursday Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 20/01/2019 08:35

Well I'm looking forward to tomorrow as I have my pre-op for my shoulder operation which I'm desperate to have!

Also, I get paid on 6th, so don't have the same gloom as others!

namechangedbutneedadvice · 20/01/2019 08:43

What Tinybarista said! Personally I enjoy the feeling of a January new start, freshness, wrapping up warm, hygge etc. I'm looking forward to tomorrow... will be a busy but fun day at work and home.

As a general rule mind, when I feel miserable nothing beats my dressing gown, a food treat, wine or just a nice cup of tea, TV in bed. Maybe a bath or what I call a dry bath (hot water bottle in bed) Grin

Alanamackree · 20/01/2019 10:21

I love January. It’s such a restful, lazy month after the stress of December. Extended family obligations melt away and there’s plenty of food to eat up (as long as you’re not daft enough to start a diet on the 1st Jan).
I don’t believe in New Year resolutions. I do tend to start the seasons with good intentions but new year is randomly plonked in the middle of the dark, cold, wet times and to my mind completely unsuited to diets/ exercise and unnecessary expense.
I love being outdoors if I’m well wrapped up and it’s really uplifting to see the green shoots pushing through.

I have a thread with ideas for frugal pleasures if it’s any help

Alanamackree · 20/01/2019 10:22

@namechangedbutneedadvice dry bath! That’s brilliant Smile

toolazytothinkofausername · 20/01/2019 10:24

I'm busy all day, got no time to be blue!

Gotstuckwiththisname · 20/01/2019 16:29

Well it's my birthday tomorrow so it hopefully won't be blue for me! (Wanders off to NC)

Jackanddarcie1 · 20/01/2019 16:39

Hi new here it’s my birthday on Thursday but feeling pretty meh about it as it’s in the week but will have cake and wine Grin

cowfacemonkey · 20/01/2019 16:43

I'm with Alanamackree. January is lovely. No reason to spend time in shops, rushing around, social obligations. The weather has been really good too, cold but fresh. Lots of lovely long dog walks and a nice Sunday roast before the work week starts tomorrow.

MelanieCheeks · 21/01/2019 17:43

My nephew just got engaged!

ForalltheSaints · 21/01/2019 18:19

Blue Monday- New Order's finest music.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 21/01/2019 18:45

How does it feel?

MrsFionaCharming · 21/01/2019 19:21

Blue Monday is my favourite day. Cheap sushi!

Crunchymum · 21/01/2019 19:36

It's DC2 birthday today.

To be fair she is ill and it's been a bit of a shit day for her. Thankfully she a little family party on Saturday. Lets hope we haven't passed his bloody virus around (temp, earache, cough! She was grand until yesterday evening)
