As long as I say ‘in my opinion’ it’s ok isn’t it ?

Or if I make a direct claim or allegation have evidence ?
This is in regards to defamation

I just want to double check before I say anything. Something awful happened to me and I attempted to complain (in full possession of all evidence) yet I was prevented from doing so and told that if I told anyone what happened that I would be taken to court !!!!

You can't stop someone who is determined to take you to court, even if you've only said the truth.

Saying "in my opinion" won't protect you from anything.

If you've been the victim of a crime, report it to the police and let them handle everything. But you would be wise to first get proper legal advice and not depend on asking a bunch of randoms on the internet.

Nobody seems to be able to give me a solid answer and my solicitor even said it’s a grey area I just feel like I won’t be silenced as been told to stop complaining my compldintvwont be accepted and if I go higher they’ll say it’s ME being defamatory (it’s the other way round)
Tbh I have the evidrnce if it goes to
Court so be it ! I have the proof !

If the truth you want to speak/write about is something factual then it is not a matter of opinion, it is a matter of fact

If you absolutely have irrefutable evidence to back up what you say then you should have nothing to fear

If the matter concerns a criminal offence though, I agree with PPs that you need to make a report to the police rather than making a public accusation

I don’t think it’s classed as criminal it’s defamation against me ....
But when I got the evidence and complained to relevant place the person who did this told me if I carried onthetd take me to court and that I was banned from complaining or speaking about it ?
I will take more advice I just wondered if anyone here would know

So someone has publicly said something untruthful about you and you effectively want to be able to defend your reputation and make a statement refuting what has been said?

avoidanceOfT · 19/01/2019 21:06

Yes precisely that
I tried to complain through the proper channels but of course the first line is the organisation the person works for which clearly caused problems as they are the head of it so they refused to accept my complaint three times ! I was then written to and told to stop persisting and if I took the complaint if information elsewhere that I would face legal action myself for defamation if I used my evidence to show what had been done /said

They are trying to bully you into giving up. Talk to Citizens Advice.
