Beginning weight training

I want to start doing some training with weights - I have no muscles! I want to be stronger overall. Where to start? Can anyone recommend any exercises I can do at home on my own or do I really have to go to a gym?

I'd think it wiser to go to the gym, so that you can get one of the trainers to show you how to lift, so that you're doing it properly and don't hurt yourself!

You can buy a dumbbell set fairly cheaply on Amazon to start with, you'll probably find you progress from it fairly quickly though. Then the choice is either gym, or spending a couple hundred on a larger weights set.

To get started, I would recommend something like this 3 day a week routine:

Or perhaps one of the fitness blender workout calendars which are usually 5 days a week:

I go to a brilliant circuits group and fitness group that is perfect for beginners and improvers. Just a privately run thing in a school hall with a trainer. Maybe ask on your Facebook local groups if there's anything like that by you?

Weight lifting is so good for your body. Do it! Your body will thank you and you will feel strong and powerful (mentally). You won't bulk up.... you'll just get better. I'd suggest a personal training session to learn how to do it as a starting point. You won't regret it.
