Youngest dc is getting into lego in a big way. I've turned out all his older brothers lego which is quite dusty and a bit manky. How do I go about cleaning it without a dishwasher other than wash a few dry a few which would take me till next christmas

Stick them in the bath.

KitKatCHA · 19/01/2019 13:09

Inside a pillowcase in the washing machine on a cold wash

Nousernameforme · 19/01/2019 13:21

would that not kill the washing machine? I can't imagine a pillow case would be secure enough to not let any out.
The bath thing is just washing them one at a time on a larger scale surely

I wash them the same as kitkat, I just knotted the top of the pillow case to stop them coming out.

ShirtyFlirty · 19/01/2019 13:37

Would the pillowcase in a dishwasher be more gentle?

bookmum08 · 19/01/2019 13:42

Yes the washing machine is fine. Thick pillow case firmly tied up.

Before I had a dishwasher. I ran a hot bath, chucked in some cleaning stuff, chucked in the lego or whatever toys and left them to soak. Went back later, pulled the plug, gave them a rinse with the shower. Cleaned the ones that still needed it. Also got the kids to help and made it into a game.

I use a zip up net laundry bag in the washing machine.

I have never even contemplated cleaning Lego! As far as I know my teenage dcs have never had any adverse effects. Our collection of Lego dated back to the 1970s. Am I really disgusting? Is cleaning Lego really a thing?

Hubby is hugely into the giant Star Wars Lego kits. I stick them in the bath when they need a wash (which is frequently as the damn things are bloody dust magnets)

holidayarmadillo2019 · 19/01/2019 18:31

I would probably do a zip up laundry bag in a pillow case (incase any escape or the net rips) Tie the top of the pillow case with a hair elastic.

greenelephantscarf · 19/01/2019 18:33

zip up pillow case on gentle wash in washing mashine.
any lego purist who tried to tell me not to when dc puked into the lego box was welcome to clean it themselves.
