How often do you take the kids out?

What type of places do you take them?

Bit more info? Age? School? Siblings? Clubs?

ShesABelter · 18/01/2019 13:55

Walks often. At the weekend I tend to take them out somewhere one day on a day out. Tomorrow we are going to a huge soft play 45 mins away. Last week was an inflatable park and lunch. Will go to the cinema. Bowling. Laser quasar. Science centre. Museum. Farm park. Zoo. Safari park. Trampoline park. Swimming.

But we will go a big walk the other day with the dog. To the park.

During the week in the evenings in this cold weather we don't tend to do as much as in the summer.

SoyDora · 18/01/2019 13:56

What do you mean ‘out’? I have one at school, a pre schooler and a newborn. I take the pre schooler out every day, whether that’s a country park type place, a farm, a cafe, the park at the end of the road, walking the dog, Tesco, visiting friends or family etc. Saturdays the 2 older DC have dance classes and we usually go out for lunch, Sundays a big bike ride or something.

InDubiousBattle · 18/01/2019 13:57

What do you mean by 'out', toddler groups? Soft play? Cinema? Theme park? To the Shops?

SoyDora · 18/01/2019 13:58

Oh and school age DC has two evening clubs/activities but not sure that classes as me taking them out.

Seline · 18/01/2019 13:58

Usually, daily

We go to the park, the soft play, museums, national trusts, garden centres and sometimes just to towns.

SoyDora · 18/01/2019 13:58

Oh and I missed off toddler groups

countrybunny · 18/01/2019 14:08

Daily!

puppymouse · 18/01/2019 14:42

DD is 5. She obviously does school mon-fri. She needs a rest after that.

Weekends she usually spends Sat afternoon with my DM playing constantly and then Sunday could be anything from playground, errands/taking the dog to the vets, maybe riding her bike down the path or just staying in doing some games and painting or something with the tv on.

I find the pressure to take kids "out" for the day exhausting and expensive and most of the time mine would rather just potter at home. All kids and parents are different though. Just do what works for you.

SoyDora · 18/01/2019 14:50

I don’t feel any pressure to take mine out, we’re just all happier when we get out the house for part of the day. We rarely spend a lot (if any) money, unless it’s a proper day trip. Each to their own!

Bluestitch · 18/01/2019 14:55

Home ed child- out for about 5/6 different groups each week. Preschool child- out 2 days at preschool, 1 activity each week. Library about twice a week, also pop to park, walk in woods or nearby city/ shops so usually out at some point each day accept Sundays which we normally spend at home.

megletthesecond · 18/01/2019 14:55

What do you mean by "out"?

Bluestitch · 18/01/2019 14:56

*except

Jenniferlyndley · 18/01/2019 16:20

Everyday - oldest is at pre school now anyway. But generally each weekday morning toddler group/park/farm/museum/forest walk/supermarket then home for a nap, then pre school pick up.

Similar at weekends mostly, sometimes a planned day out, or do something more exciting in central London.

I barely spend any money but find we get cabin fever if we just stay in and I end up sticking the tv on, and they don't sleep as well. I believe young children are like dogs - they need walking!

MrsJBaptiste · 18/01/2019 16:40

You need to specify the age you mean OP

I thought you meant out shopping, for meals, to the pub, etc. but my two are 12 and 14 so not the same as talking about toddlers.

Desmondo2016 · 18/01/2019 16:43

I have a 2 year old and we go out every day. Baby groups, swimming or playdate when dh is at work and then days out like beaches, the moor, feeding the ducks, national trust places, finding nice little towns to have lunch in etc on the weekend. Occasionally local paid for attractions too. Life's too short to sit in watching telly!

WendyCope · 18/01/2019 16:47

Agree with MrsJ My DD is 11. I used to take her the park and some activity every day and every Sat Sun. Now she is older, she is tired at the weekend with loads of homework.

We might go shopping, but generally, in the winter, it's staying in and relaxing. Summer is swimming all day every day as we live in a hot country and get 3 months summer hols.

Toddlers need permanent activity as they can't read/entertain themselves as much.

WendyCope · 18/01/2019 16:50

Also my DD is at school 8.30 until 5pm. Last thing she wants is an 'activity' so it really depends. Certainly, when they're younger you put the work in!

Soft play hell!

Camomila · 18/01/2019 17:32

2 year old.
Usually out 6 days a week - 1 day with DM, 3 at nursery, and then out at the weekends.

I try not to leave the house on Mondays (bar maybe local shop or park) so he can potter about with his toys.

Whyareweallhere · 18/01/2019 19:38

Thanks all. Sorry, should have said age, 6-7 year old.

In the school week they have lots of clubs after school activities. At weekends they get out each day, walks parks etc. Maybe a special treat each month cinema bowling soft play etc.

Parttimewasteoftime · 18/01/2019 19:42

One or twice a month sorry

Theonewiththecat · 18/01/2019 19:46

In the holidays and weekends then every day. Maybe just a small walk to Costa for hot chocolate but I feel everyone is happier when we've had a walk.
When I'm at work on a weekend dd and DH will walk me to work and play Pokemon go on the way 🙄

PlansNotDreams · 18/01/2019 19:47

DS (18m) walks to and from nursery 5 days a week.

We go out both weekend days because DH and I have a low threshold for cabin fever! Normally park, zoo, swimming, shopping or out with DH’s family.

Theonewiththecat · 18/01/2019 19:48

But if you mean out out...
We try to go swimming every 2 weeks. Maybe trampolining once a month or every 2 months. Dd likes clothes shopping so we do that occasionally.
Blackpool pleasure beach and waterpark once a year
