How often do you take the kids out?

What type of places do you take them?

Hardly ever, between school works for us and weekend activities for the kids we barely have any time to spare. We have 4 DC though so maybe a bit more manic than a smaller family.

FogCutter · 18/01/2019 19:54

I have a 7yo DS who absolutely has to be exercised every day or he starts to climb the walls.

School every day with a sports club Monday pm.
After school club 3 days per week
Weekends a sports club or match fixture Saturday and Sunday mornings and maybe out in the afternoons too eg cinema, museum, walk.

He's got so much energy (unfortunately🍷😬)

Neverunderfed · 18/01/2019 20:01

What sort of out? The older ones (8 and 6) go to school every day, and we often pop to the park on the way home, normally go for a drink with my parents one afternoon too. At weekends we tend to go out both days, one does gym on a Sat and then we go for a walk, they both do park run on a Sunday and we normally then stay in. We will quite happily stay in all weekend though, they're food at entertaining themselves and we have a big garden.

They used to be home educated and we were out and about every day, I'm enjoying the comparative peace 😂

Neverunderfed · 18/01/2019 20:03

We do often visit a couple of local English heritage places, in the warmer months we go to the beach after school and at weekends, go for a swim at my parents a few times a week.

Tend to go for a meal once or twice a month too

Houseonahill · 18/01/2019 20:35

Why do people take toddlers out everyday? Is it because they need it? Am I doing it wrong? I take DD out once a week to somewhere that costs money (soft play, zoo etc.) And then we go shopping one day a week and sometimes I take her the park one day a week but not so much now it's cold. I just don't see the need? We are happy in the house and I do lots of stuff with her inside. DD is 2.

(I'm not being goady or judging or anything genuinely wondering if I'm a bad parent not going out everyday)

SoyDora · 18/01/2019 20:48

I take my toddler out because I think the fresh air and exercise does her good, because I’m not a fan of being at home all day (I go a bit stir crazy) and generally because we’re both happier if we get out and about.

3boysandabump · 18/01/2019 20:49

At least once every weekend and every day in the school holidays. My dc are not indoor kids 😂

mustdrinkwaternotwine · 18/01/2019 20:52

DC are 9 & 6 and only get home at 6pm in the week as they're at activities/childcare until then. Weekends are mainly spent at home or seeing friends. One or the other of them might have a party.
One of my intentions for this year is to have a day out once a month or so as they do enjoy doing different things once they're out but getting them out of the house, away from Lego, the trampoline & the football goal is a struggle.

Desmondo2016 · 18/01/2019 21:00

We go out every day because there's a lot of different things and places on this planet I want her to see! I think its so good for them to have as many experiences as possible and also good for them to have lazy chill out times or activities at home.

Equimum · 18/01/2019 21:09

It varies a bit, especially what we do by time of year. At the moment, we mostly come home after school, and DS has a n activity one evening. Last weekend DH took DS out on errands on saturday, then we took him and his bike to the park on Sunday. This weekend we are going to buy him some clothes tomorrow, then going to a friends for a play day, then in to a local event in the early evening. On Sunday we might drive to a country Park or NT.

We don’t do lots of expensive days out, if that’s what you mean. At half term, for example, I am planning two NT trips, country park trip and a day trip to either a big farm park or into London.

Girlicorne · 18/01/2019 21:19

Mine are 9 and 11 and at school then after school club every day. We go to the cinema or trampolining one night a week after school and we go out every day at the weekends and usually away in school holidays. We do lots of different things, we have annual passes to two theme parks open all year round and National Trust passes so we will go to a National Trust place or either of the theme parks but also farms, zoos, swimming, trampolining, crazy golf, theme parks, safari parks, museums. We do whatever the DC want to do at the weekends really, we do a family flipchart every month with a list of what we want to do. Last weekend we went to a National Trust place and one of the local theme parks, tomorrow we are going to play crazy golf and have a meal out and Sunday we are going to a big swimming place with flumes etc 50 miles away. It is much easier in the summer though as more stuff is open and you can spend longer outdoors in the sunshine. We camp almost every weekend in summer too.

Angelinthenight · 18/01/2019 22:08

My younger children age 9,7 and 5 we dont go out every week my 9 year old is in a wheelchair so it is harder but we have a big garden and lots to do at our home,we do play dates etc with friends.we enjoy being a home as a family so when we do go out its special time. Families are different in what they do no right or wrong answer x

swimmerforlife · 18/01/2019 22:38

I have got a 4 & 7yo, generally do not do many activities during school terms other cinema maybe once a month, go to the park, bike riding, museums, maybe national trust. Most weekends we go out for a pub lunch or a nice dinner but we are a foodie family.

Holidays we do zoos, mini golf etc.

Soft play rarely thank fuck (get lots party invites there generally!).

They have swimming weekly.

ZaphodBeeblerox · 18/01/2019 22:43

Depends on how big your house is. We live in London (zone 3) in a small flat - so we go out every day. But if we had a larger place and family or friends dropping by then we wouldn’t. I’m now back at work so DD is in childcare 4x a week. On my day off we go swimming, and on the weekend we go out at least once a day. But it’s often just for a long walk or to meet friends - not necessarily a child centred activity

Peepingsnowdrops · 18/01/2019 22:44

Tend to go to the library once a fortnight. Swimming lesson once a week. Grandparents once a week.
Yesterday we went to the coffee shop. Playground once at the weekend. We have a party this weekend and a play date but we don't usually have that much on.

Cinema every six weeks. We have national trust membership and usually visit Sundays spring summer and autumn

HugeAckmansWife · 18/01/2019 22:45

No one so far has mentioned cost but with 2 dcs and one adult, swimming is £10, cinema is £20-30, trampoline similar, a meal out similar. There are a lot of barriers at this time of year, easier when it's warmer. Yes you can do Groupon deals, vouchers etc but it still adds up

EssentialHummus · 18/01/2019 22:47

Toddler here. Every day, usually twice a day, but one of those will be an errand.

EssentialHummus · 18/01/2019 22:47

(Well, the toddler's in bed, "parent of toddler here".)

BackforGood · 18/01/2019 22:52

Does depend what you mean by "out".

When mine were that age, during term time, by the time I picked them up from their childminder, gave them tea there wasn't much time to be going anywhere. They did start Beavers at 6, so that was once a week, and they all started swimming lessons at 4 so that was another session. Then at weekends, we go to Church on a Sunday morning, and about once a month go to Grandparents.
In the school holidays though, we'd go out everyday (unless it was a hot summer when they could be out in the garden all day)- don't know if it was just mine, but they needed "a run" every day - fresh air, exercise, etc.

If you mean "out to a venue you have to pay a lot of money for" then that was quite rare. We usually did one 'big trip' per summer holidays and usually some sort of theatre trip in the Winter months.

What do you do Whyareweall here ?

SallyWD · 14/09/2019 10:38

I have primary school age kids. We go out every day there's not school (occasionally after school too especially in summer). At the weekend we'll go out several times the local park is great - we can do football, tennis, cycling and basket ball there. Also go to museums on rainy dates, national trust properties, cinema, etc. I'm always surprised when I hear people stay in all day. That wouldn't work for us. I'd be tearing my hair out and the place would be a tip!

Septembersunrays · 14/09/2019 11:56

We tend to totally laze one day each weekend and go out the other day, musuem, large town, play areas, bikes, woods etc.
