What does someone "coming to look at the electrics" involve?

Estate agents have told me there's a man arriving around 12 to examine the electrics. What does this mean? Is it like PAT testing? Anyone know how long it'll take?

They can do an electrical survey. Is this in your house, or the one you're buying?

When we bought our house we paid for an electrician to come round and do an up to date electrical survey, they give a report which says any work that needs done or anything that is dangerous. For example, the upstairs of our house wasn't earthed, but because they had newly installed sockets and switches we wouldn't have known without the survey. A homebuyers survey doesn't show this.

Sorry just seen it's clearly your house! And he'll have been and gone by now!

@thenewaveragebear1983 I rent! Sorry, the estate agents manages the flat I'm living in as the landlord is in Tenerife so they let me know about people coming to do flat inspections etc.

I don't actually know if anyone came, I was out and everything looks exactly the same Confused

They shouldn't be going in if you're not there should they? Did you give them permission

Isn't that part of renting a flat? That workers/builders/etc can come in to do works even if you're not there? The letter I had said no need to be home, the guy will pick a key up from the estate agent

As a landlord they are probably allowed to request to come and do annual safety checks (eg in the way you have boiler serviced?) but some notice would be polite!
