Sex doll brothels.

Did anyone watch Victoria Derbyshire today, the article about the boom in sex doll brothels?

Is it a viable replacement for women in the sex industry? Does it really make sex workers safer?

Bump, anyone catch it?

I can't get worked up about inadimate objects. That's a very unsavory path to walk down. What next? people who collect reborn dolls being able to collect child benefit just because they look like the real thing and fill the void of one? Banning dildos? I think sex dolls are pretty icky but it's not anybody elses business what men and their pile of latex get up to anymore than it's anybody business what women and their pile of latex get up to.

Bezalelle · 18/01/2019 14:50

If we could replace all sex workers and porn "stars" with dolls, and give the women who would have done those jobs stable financial situations, I'd be up for it.

shuffles back off to feminist utopia

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2019 14:51

Somehow or other I don’t think it will lead to women being treated better. I think men that use these brothels will treat real women like they’re sex dolls.

OdeToDiazepam · 18/01/2019 14:52

Objectification of women and it's highly disturbing tbh

itsbritbeybiatches · 18/01/2019 14:54

Why do they want to have sex with dolls though?! I can't get my head round it.

Why do they want to have sex with sex workers?!

Women just don't do this at all. A small minority maybe but many more men do.

I just don't get it.

knittedjest · 18/01/2019 14:57

Women don't do this at all

Are you sure? Because last time I checked the sex toy industry was ranking in £30 billion a year.

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2019 15:00

I think there’s a difference between a sec toy and something that looks like a fully grown woman. Or resembles a child.

CoffeeRunner · 18/01/2019 15:04

To me, visiting a brothel to have sex with a doll is worse (as in a weirder concept) than visiting a brothel to have sex with a woman.

If a person wants a sex doll why don’t they have it in their own home? Although I guess many of these customers will have wives or partners at home who would strongly object!

knittedjest · 18/01/2019 15:05

I don't. Womens sex toys look like male body parts. Or dragon dongs. Male or female sex toys they're all just chunks of latex. Hell, one of the most popular dildo ranges in the world is a latex casing of six of the top male porn stars dicks.

HollowTalk · 18/01/2019 15:06

I think it's worse, too, in so many way. Does anyone remember watching the first episode of Humans (I think - it was a while ago now) where there was a brothel like this and the men were anally raping the female robots. It was terrifying.

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2019 15:06

You wouldn’t find a man having sex with a realistic child doll disturbing?

TheMatriarch · 18/01/2019 15:07

I’m reminded of this article
Sex robot molested and damaged by men
Which is disturbing.
Tbh the more I read and learn the more disturbed I am by the antics of too many men.

knittedjest · 18/01/2019 15:13

Sure, just like I find the abnormal amount of women having sex with a dragon dong dildo disturbing. But you can't give human rights to inanimate objects no matter how unsavory. It's too slippery a sloap. What comes next? Stepping on a baby doll gets you charged with child abuse?

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2019 15:16

You can’t see that there might be a link between how people treat these realistic sex dolls and how they will treat their human partners?

I’m not saying that there should be a ban, but to think that this will make things better for women is naive.

itsbritbeybiatches · 18/01/2019 15:16

Knitted

Do women buy sex toys because it looks like a penis though?

I've always gone for the vibration and how quiet it is. Not how much it looks like a penis. In all honesty I don't want it to lol like one.

MrsTerryPratcett · 18/01/2019 15:21

I'm willing to bet the effect on male sexuality will be deleterious. Because there appears to be no 'harmless' 'victimless' part of the sex trade that doesn't, in some way, lead to more sexual violence.

I'm fairly sure that a man acting out rape/violent fantasies on a doll is more, not less, likely to try those out on a woman.

Could be wrong, very much hope I am.

CoastalLife · 18/01/2019 15:31

I am deeply uncomfortable with this and I feel it definitely does not bode well for women, or children.

I don't particularly want to Google anything "child sex doll" related to check and reference, but I remember reading a while ago that far from reducing instances of child abuse as some had hoped, giving paedophiles access to child sex dolls had actually just normalised the idea of sex acts with a child and made the men more likely to seek out real human children to abuse.

I think we would see men with violent sexual tendencies and rape fantasies whose only legal outlet is currently pornography, visiting these brothels to indulge their fantasies. I believe that this desensitises men to sexual violence against real women and puts female lives at risk.

And if we believe that there will only be "adult" sex dolls in these brothels, we are kidding ourselves.

knittedjest · 18/01/2019 15:38

There are arguments for and against. And so far all hypothesis for both sides are untested. So I can't say with any certainty. But neither can anybody else. From a personal perspective I think it a bit gross and pathetic. But I am thoroughly against human rights for latex moulds so I suppose until there is actual proof that says that it is harmful I can't oppose people using them as I don't for any other victimless adult sexual activity.

MrsTerryPratcett · 18/01/2019 15:43

I am thoroughly against human rights for latex moulds

Straw man much?

Are you also unconcerned about child sex dolls?

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2019 15:44

But I am thoroughly against human rights for latex moulds

Who is saying these dolls should have human rights?

TheQueef · 18/01/2019 15:49

IMO
To me it feels wrong. Young men growing up with these will surely be stunted emotionally or not capable of healthy sex lives.
I took the impression that the added safety was a smoke screen, instead of men not buying sex they will just buy it from sex dolls.
What happens when they get bored of anything goes sex with a doll and take their business to real women?
On the article the price in the Italian brothel was £60 so not a cheaper option.

OP posts:
knittedjest · 18/01/2019 15:53

Are you also unconcerned about child sex dolls?

And you accuse me making stawmen statements?

PurpleDaisies · 18/01/2019 15:55

That’s not a straw man. People have made child dolls for men to have sex with.

CoastalLife · 18/01/2019 15:59

until there is actual proof that says that it is harmful

So we just bury our heads in the sand until enough women and children are hurt or killed to justify some action? Why are men's orgasms more important than (potentially) the lives of women and children?

What comes next? Stepping on a baby doll gets you charged with child abuse?

People don't oppose sex doll brothels because they are concerned about the wellbeing of latex sex dolls. They oppose them because of the potential link with violence against women and children.
