How can I make a decent latte at home?

I have a chemex and some lovely coffee beans, so it’s not the coffee part, it’s the milk and ratio, I can’t get it right. Do I have to buy a milk foamer? Im trying to stop buying non-recyclable coffee cups so I have a decent reusable cup, I just can’t make a nice milky coffee for it!

The Nespresso Aeroccino milk frother is the best I've used at home - nice creamy foam and easy to use/clean as well. You can get them on their own without the coffee machine.

Agree with the Nespresso Aerocino I use every day and it's lovely

Buy a Nespresso Aeroccino machine. It heats the milk up in seconds and makes it frothy too. You can buy them on their own, you don't need to have an actual Nespresso machine.

Another vote for nespresso aeroccino - latte or cappuccino style milk in a couple of minutes, I use mine daily.

I bought a milk heater/frother from Aldi for £20 and its brilliant! I make it 1 quarter espresso to 3 quarters milk.

sleeplessinsomewhere · 18/01/2019 10:19

Oh these sound lovely.

Pumperthepumper · 18/01/2019 11:56

Ahh now I really want an aeroccino! Out of my price range just now though, I was hoping someone would say ‘300 ml of milk and a whisk, microwave for three minutes, perfect!’ Will get saving for one, thanks all 👍

man in costa told me they heat their coffee up to 70degrees. get a milk thermometer.

SpoonBlender · 18/01/2019 13:51

If you have a cafetier lurking in the cupboard, bang your 70C milk in there (thanks Just) and smash the plunger up and down a few times. Froth! Dishwasherable!

Bodum and the like do smaller dedicated milk frothers in the same plunger style, but a cafetier is fine as long as it isn't too large for the milk load.

sleeplessinsomewhere · 18/01/2019 14:14

Oh that's a good plan

SpoonBlender · 18/01/2019 14:16

For owners - what's cleaning up like on the Aeroccino?

MeetOnTheledge · 18/01/2019 14:20

We used to gave an Aeroccino but after a couple of years it started burning the milk on to the inside every time we used it. I bought an Aerolatte whisk instead and whisk the milk while it heats in a pan, it makes super thick frothed milk.

SleepyPaws · 18/01/2019 14:21

As all ready mentioned, I got the Bodum milk frother to use with a Bialetti coffee maker, for the price it's brilliant! I'm in no way missing shop brought cappuccino's!

Marmite27 · 18/01/2019 14:25

We have an aerolatte whisk, nespresso aeroccini and have had the Aldi version.

The Aldi version burnt milk badly and was a pain to wash. May have been that batch though as the one at work is fine.

The Aeroccini is the current favourite as it heats the milk too. The Aerolatte whisk is good, but is just a whisk.

SpoonBlender · 18/01/2019 14:39

I've just looked up the Aerolatte whisk and realised I have one in the cupboard (behind the Bodum!), which has probably died the death of leaky batteries by now. Whoops. It didn't get much use as it didn't really impress.

PoutySprout · 18/01/2019 14:43

Nespresso = Nestle (in case you’re a boycotter)

GENIUS! And I already have one!

Bodum would agree regarding a cafetiere, if just seen a milk frother of theirs that looks just like a cafetiere. Reasonable reviews and price, so I've added it to my wish list.
