unexpected weight loss

So i went to the doctor on tuesday for my 6 monthly pill review, had blood pressure done and hopped on the scales as usual, then sat down and the nurse said oh you've lost quite a bit of weight since your last review haven't you? i said eh? how much? She said at your last review you were 92kg and now you're 72kg! So i've gone from 14stone to 11stone in 6 months, but the weirdest thing is that i haven't noticed it AT ALL.

I'm still wearing the same clothes, haven't noticed a single bit of weight drop off me, I'm obviously very happy!!! But after sitting thinking about it i'm also wondering how i've lost it, i haven't been trying to lose weight i've been doing everything the exact same, and ate a shed load over christmas!

So just wondering what you'd do in this situation? The nurse didn't seem worried but at the time i didn't express any concern either i was just happy! Should i book a doc appointment to see if there's anything amiss??

Also since finding out about it, looking back on pics from a few months ago i can see that i have lost a bit of weight, so that part must just be in my head!

I would book a GP appointment personally just for piece of mind, it's a lot of weight to lose without any lifestyle changes.

HavelockVetinari · 17/01/2019 18:19

Definitely book a GP appointment, unexplained weight loss can be a marker for a few things that need treating ASAP.

Unexplained weight loss can indicate some hidden clinical issue. Go to the GP and get full bloods done.

DustOffYourHighestHopes · 17/01/2019 18:24

Go to doctor.

For my friend it was a precursor to a hyperthyroidism diagnosis. She had no other symptoms (symptoms like hyperactivity, periods out of sync etc can be masked or just not show).

BentNeckLady · 17/01/2019 18:27

Having recently lost several stone I’m amazed that you haven’t noticed any difference? 3 stone on me was 3 dress sizes! Are you sure the scales were both calibrated correctly both times you’ve been weighed?

NorthEndGal · 17/01/2019 18:30

Have you had night sweats, or itchy skin, or any other changes?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 17/01/2019 18:33

Were the scales correct? That's a lot of weight to have lost and not be aware of!

hairymuffet · 17/01/2019 18:34

Maybe they recorded your last weight wrongly.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 17/01/2019 18:35

how can you not know you've lost 3 stone? That's about three dress sizes.

I'd wonder at their scales - have you got scales at home?

StillMe1 · 17/01/2019 18:44

Have you changed clothes sizes or noticed that your clothes are loose?
Check any other medication you might be taking.
This needs to be checked out because if the scales are wrong the surgery needs to get them sorted

christmaschristmaschristmas · 17/01/2019 18:46

3 stone? Surely you/your family have noticed you have gone from quite overweight/obese to an average weight?

4forkssake · 17/01/2019 18:49

I lost 2 stone in 2 months but I was very aware of it (was trying to lose at first then was losing too much in comparison to the efforts to lose). However I felt dreadful & thought I was dying by the time I went to the docs. Turns out I had hyperthyroidism to a severe degree! Definitely worth getting your bloods taken to get checked out.

5lnaBed · 17/01/2019 18:50

3 stone is a lot to lose, I’m sure it would be very noticeable. To lose that in 6 months without trying would be concerning too.

Are you sure they recorded your weight properly?

Justbackfromnewwine · 17/01/2019 18:53

3 stone at that sort of weight would surely alter your appearance significantly and make clothes much looser.
If no one has commented, you don’t feel different and your clothes don’t feel different, it sounds more like the scales are wrong or it was written down incorrectly the first time!

Thanks for all the replies, i'll get a docs appointment booked.

I've weighed myself since the appointment because i just couldn't believe it, and it's correct. Since finding out though i have noticed my bras a bit big on me. I only ever go to work and come home (single mum) so only wear my work jeans or pyjamas really, my work jeans are the topshop motto ones so quite stretchy material, and they have become a bit baggy but because of the material i just assumed they've become like that in the wash. My pyjamas/comfy house clothes are all big and baggy anyway.

I did lose 3 stone about 4 years ago and noticed it and felt great. Since then i've had a baby and my stomach is pouchy so i think that might be why i haven't noticed the weight loss as well, ive still got the pouch so i still thought i was fat type of thing, plus i'm a broad curvy girl big thighs and big hips 5"7 so maybe the weight loss is more spread out all over so i haven't noticed? god knows!! I've spent time inspecting myself since finding out and do notice areas where i've lost weight, my old work jeans are size 16 ive just been and bought some size 12's today Blush hopefully it's nothing too worrying!

You look great but are you sure your scales are right? The last two photos aren't different really Confused

marshmy · 17/01/2019 19:41

yep i went into boots and used the scales there, twice! This is why i haven't noticed because i'm only seeing a minor difference now that i know

OP posts:
2cats2many · 17/01/2019 19:42

You don't look 14 stone in the second pic

marshmy · 17/01/2019 19:43

In that pic i'm wearing my friends size 12 outfit and it was deffo tight on me i felt horrific, but today i've slid into a pair of size 12 jeans so maybe more weight loss since then?Confused

marshmy · 17/01/2019 19:44

I was, i'm a tall girl so it probably won't look as much on me as it would someone shorter

I think maybe the higher weight isn’t right, you’ve lost some weight but it doesn’t look like 3 stone
