Why be tied to a contract at all?
Buy a phone outright and get a cheap SIM only deal.

MephistophelesApprentice · 17/01/2019 10:23

Iphones break after a year to persuade you to buy another (and Apple software is crap)

Huawei is a good choice if you don't mind the Chinese government knowing everything you and everyone around you are talking about.

Samsung is the best from the list.

Imsosorryalan1 · 17/01/2019 10:42

Samsung for me, love my S9

lucysmam · 17/01/2019 10:52

I have an s9 & love it; even pre smart phone I liked Samsung.

That said, we have a Huawei Pro in the house as well & I'm really impressed with it. It was £100 in CEX, still with the protective films on front and back - I don't think it'd been used much, if at all.

I've never been keen on iPhones, I've borrowed a couple to try them when I've needed a new phone but just couldn't get on with them.

Are you looking for a contract for your dd? My almost 12yo has the £7.50 giff-gaff goody bag - 2gb data, unlimited texts & I can't remember the talk time but it's plenty.

ShanghaiDiva · 17/01/2019 10:54

Huawei
Chinese govt not a problem as I live in China so they already know everything about me!

Rockbird · 17/01/2019 10:55

iPhones don't break after a year! Where the hell did you get that from? Grin

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 17/01/2019 10:57

I;ve made the jump recently from iPhone to a Huawei Honor 9 lite.

Bought it outright £169 and switched to sim only. Works out cheaper over the year.

Su surprised by the quality though. It's amazing! Responds better, camera is great and overall, a great step up from the iphone for a fraction of the cost.

My husband has just done the same also (Bought an Honor 8X) and has also said he'd never switch back to iPhone.

Gizlotsmum · 17/01/2019 11:05

Is it easy to use huawei after an iPhone? Can you access google photos etc?

ArfArfBarf · 17/01/2019 11:06

Dh switched from iPhone to a brand new Huawei (not sure what model but it looks like an iPhone X) about 6 months ago and really liked the phone but he updated it recently and it wouldn’t turn on again afterwards and Huawei have been totally unhelpful so would not recommend.

Puggles123 · 17/01/2019 11:07

Samsung!

lucysmam · 17/01/2019 11:15

@Gizlotsmum I've gone from htc to this Samsung & can access my google photo's using the same google account so I would imagine it'd be the same with iPhone to Huawei :)

Imsosorryalan1 · 17/01/2019 11:42

We have iPhones as work phones and they are awful, they don't always ring, notifications come through hours later, sometimes days, call quality is shite

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 17/01/2019 12:09

@Gizlotsmum I have no issues accessing anything. I backed up my iPhone data to google drive first so I could transfer my data across also.

I've also easily found all my apps in the playstore and found they run smoother on the android phone.

kittenfun · 17/01/2019 12:11

Between

samsung j5 2017 - £11.49 a mnth

IPhone 6s £17 a mnth

Huawei y6 £10 a mnth

iPhones have gone down hill massively, now the fashion sense has dropped off.

Huawei good phone but like PP said, Partially Chinese state owned, we don't allow them in our work.

Samsung decent phone

Look at One+ as well they are decent phones

Neverunderfed · 17/01/2019 12:38

Huawei

GeneandFred · 17/01/2019 16:19

Huawei

Hands down. Apple are shite and Samsung uses to be good but not since Huawei came along.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 17/01/2019 16:26

I have an Huawei Mate 20 Lite and I'm really pleased with it. Having just moved from an iPhone 6, I'm super pleased with the battery life and it does everything I need. However it did come with a stick on screen protector which I though meant the manufacturer felt it was required, so I bought a decent one to stick on. Obviously doesn't look as clean as an iPhone in that regard, but as now just throw it in my bag with my keys, it's probably better suited Grin

Not too bothered about the Chinese Government as I can't quite believe that Apple weren't taking a vast amount of info from my iPhone. I expect Google are doing the same now I'm using all of their apps.

PickAChew · 17/01/2019 16:32

Are those prices just for the phone, or do they include data and calls/texts?

I rather love my honor 9.

The huawei phones you listed can be bought outright for under £150.

Endofrelationship · 17/01/2019 16:34

This.

And not an iPhone.

AwdBovril · 17/01/2019 16:37

Samsung - hidden cost - if you send a text message over a certain number of characters it counts it as a data message. Also if you use smileys etc. These are generally not included in the contract, so will rack up the bill quite quickly above the standard monthly fee. I doubt your DD will want to be restricted to 70 characters per message (not sure if it's the same on all models).

I wouldn't have another Samsung unless they changed this, TBH. It's a pain in the backside.

kittenfun · 17/01/2019 16:53

IPhone 6s is £17 a mnth

5000 mins
5000 texts
500mb

Huawei. Me and my dd have them. I've had Huawei for three years, managed to persuade dd this year to switch from IPhone.
