So sorry for the vague title - I forgot the link wouldn't show in the title. I'm sleep deprived....

Is this the family

www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12192028

If it is, you would not believe how much press and tv time is being given to them.

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 09:39

Oh, okay. Smile I only heard about it an hour ago and couldn't find a thread on it.

OP posts:
FiveShelties · 17/01/2019 09:43

No I don't think there is a thread on here - my link was to the NZ Herald newspaper, they are the talk of NZ at the moment! Summer here so not much happening news wise.Smile

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 09:48

Are you in NZ? I'm in Oz?

OP posts:
FiveShelties · 17/01/2019 09:50

I am in NZ - is it very hot for you?

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 10:03

43 today! More tomorrow then down to 38 on Saturday. A cool change! Grin

Can we have a clue, someone wearing a T shirt in a petrol station doesn't seem like news.

combatbarbie · 17/01/2019 10:26

Basically a British family running riot on a road trip, being abusive, stealing, littering etc

BroomstickOfLove · 17/01/2019 10:26

Yeah. I saw an article from The Times on Facebook yesterday with a load of racist comments and noticed that they reposted with the nationality changed later on in the day after a lot of criticism of the original headline.

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 10:26

It's a gypsy/traveller family causing uproar in NZ. It was being reported as Irish tourists. Now it's being reported as Brit tourists.

OP posts:
combatbarbie · 17/01/2019 10:28

1st link claims they are Irish travellers

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 10:29

Another family recently did the same thing on the Gold Coast in Australia.

OP posts:
PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 10:31

1st link claims they are Irish travellers - the Kiwis thought they were Irish nationals because they have strong Irish accents.

OP posts:
PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 10:32

I wanted to know whether you'd heard about it in the UK?

OP posts:
PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 10:49

I guess not then. I suppose the news is full of Brexit. It's massive news over here though as it's an unknown thing.

OP posts:
CrispbuttyNo1 · 17/01/2019 10:55

They were originally described as scousers.. it’s definitely a traveller family though and they don’t sound anything like scousers.

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 10:57

That's right because they told journalists they lived in Liverpool.

OP posts:
CrispbuttyNo1 · 17/01/2019 11:02

Reading those links of all their behaviour they sound like utter scum.

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 11:03

But has it been reported in the UK much?

OP posts:
Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 17/01/2019 11:08

It’s in UK news too, saw it last night. Well done to NZ for throwing them out!

GnothiSeafton · 17/01/2019 11:09

Not at all - to my knowledge - I'd not heard of it until this thread. TBH, a story like that isn't going to hit the headlines here.

GnothiSeafton · 17/01/2019 11:10

Ah, X-posted. Where did you see it Howmany?

pusspuss9 · 17/01/2019 11:10

There was a large article in the Daily Mail about it yesterday I think

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/01/2019 11:16

TBH, a story like that isn't going to hit the headlines here.

Why? I thought the press would be outraged and comment on them being called Brit tourist family Grin - they do have British passports apparently but probably wouldn't identify as British. I'm guessing there, of course, but would guess they'd prefer to identify as Traveller.

(I am English by the way, not actually Australian, so not having a dig.)
