Ok not really much of a spoiler but can guarantee the one person who has never seen it will see this thread and declare I ruined it. Anyway I love this show and regularly rewatch it. When the council bods visit in series 1 they decide it can't be funded anymore. Hannah then says that she'll fund it herself (or rather we'll fund it ourselves). Where would she get the money from? Surely it must cost thousands to run a care home? It shows the patients being well looked after, day trips, art class, animal therapy etc. I know in real life these might include charitable donations, voluntary work etc. But where would the money come from year in year out for wages etc?

In RL from fee paying residents. Care homes generally cost around £1000 a week. If a person has assets and are not entitled to funding for medical reasons (most aren't) they must pay themselves. Care homes are businesses.

Ah ok. I thought council run homes were different from private ones. Although I'm guessing they both have stringent rules to adhere to.
