My mouth tastes awful

For the past three days my mouth tastes like I've been chewing one of those 2p bubble gum balls for about 4 hours too long. It's horrible - as soon as I've finished eating it's back. I've got no idea what it could be. Has anyone had this before?

It's not like the metallic taste you get in early pregnancy.

Taking any meds? Zopiclone is bad for it..... future not, don't ever ever drink milk whilst on that stuff, it tastes like it should be ready for making cheese!!!

Several possibilities here - loose filling trapping food, tooth decay, gum disease. It’s worth ruling out a dental cause. Ensure you are brushing and cleaning between teeth effectively and for long enough (many people don’t clean for the recommended length of time, or use interdental cleaning aids daily). Be aware strong mouthwashes, particularly chlorhexidine (eg corsodyl), can cause a bad taste sometimes. Having a dry mouth can cause a bad taste do ensure you are adequately hydrated.
Another possibility can be throat/tonsil inflammation, gastrointestinal upset or heartburn. These should also be ruled out.
Some foods can cause a strange taste - the usual culprits being garlic and onions. Randomly, pine nuts can sometimes cause a persistent foul taste in the mouth.

Not on any medication. The trapped food might be possible although I do brush very well. I don't use mouthwash though. I'll also make a conscious effort to stay hydrated tomorrow and see if that helps.

I did have popcorn recently which is a good candidate for food getting stuck in teeth and gums.
