Allergic reaction, what to do now?

Sounds so silly, but I feel like my tonsils have all dried up and I can't swallow properly! The tonsils also feel inflamed

I stupidly fancied an apple and took a bite. I had a similar reaction a few years ago and avoided them since, but the allergy was milder at the time and I thought I may have 'grown out of it'

But it literally feels like I cannot swallow. It's frightening Blush I don't have any allergy tablets. My gums are also really itchy.

Can I ignore it?

call 999
if your throat closes it can get really difficult for you

DustyMaiden · 16/01/2019 23:02

No, get some allergy tablet from somewhere, friend neighbour shop. Don't take any chances.

PanannyPanoo · 16/01/2019 23:05

Call 999. This could be a more severe reaction to last time. Second exposures often are. Please don't ignore. If there is anyone that can get anti histimine to you whilst you wait for the ambulance call them after 999.

I feel completely fine, other than a throat. The only way I can describe it is like when I swallow, it feels like my tonsils or something are the size of golf balls

If only your throat swells you will not be fine. Anaphylaxis is not fine.

cheesywotnots · 16/01/2019 23:16

Please get urgent medical attention.

MollyHuaCha · 16/01/2019 23:30

Hope you feel better soon.

DustyMaiden · 17/01/2019 10:51

Hope you are ok today? Please get allergy testing and an epipen. Allergies often get worse with every reaction.

Olinguito · 17/01/2019 12:27

I hope you are better today and didn't get any worse. It might be worth looking up Oral Allergy Syndrome, but do please see a doctor too.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 17/01/2019 12:33

How are you opShock

ALittleCrisp · 17/01/2019 12:38

I'm fine! Thank you Thanks

I could swallow within about an hour. It gradually went down but my goodness, I thought my tonsils had gone into tennis balls! They hadn't, I had a look at my throat and my tonsils were still normal sized.

I was going to call 111 but it seemed to go down and then went completely.

I won't be touching apples again though. All I had was a tiny nibble!

Phew! Glad you’re ok!

EmmaStone · 17/01/2019 13:01

Glad to hear you're ok, but I'd see a GP asap, as you will probably need to keep an epipen on you. I'd have some antihistamines in the house at all times as well now x

Stupomax · 17/01/2019 13:55

It sounds like Oral Allergy Syndrome. You may find you react to other raw fruits and nuts. It can develop in adulthood so you're possibly going to find it gets worse rather than grow out of it.

It's worth a chat to your GP.

I also get the throat tightening thing but for me it's always resolved with antihistamines (a quick-acting one like Piriton rather than something like Zirtek). I always have them with me now.
