Tyre pressure advice please

I have a warning light on dash and display is telling to check tyre pressure.

I’ve looked in hand book, it tells me to look at inside of door. Inside door in picture, I’m confused! Tyres say 50 psi, which cannot be the actual tyre pressure!

Can anyone please tell me from the picture, what tyre pressure is?

What size are your tyres? It will be on the tyre itself. Then match to the picture and away you go :)

The figures on the diagram are in bar and kPa. 220 kPa is 32 psi. Could the 50psi be the maximum rated pressure?

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/01/2019 11:56

Maybe 50 psi is the maximum the tyres have been tested to, but not the appropriate filling pressure?

I think psi numbers need to be about 10x bigger - it's not exact - I think that 2.2 bar is equal to somewhere between 20 and 25 psi, I can't remember the exact conversion.

You have the pressures in bar there, and every gauge I have ever seen, whether little handheld ones, or the ones on the airline at the garage, give pressures in bar, so you could use those.

That’s saying your tyre size is 205/45 R17 and they are currently measuring 2.2bars at the front and 2.4bars at the back.

The bit towards the bottom says that tyre size should be 2.6bars. Which converted to psi is 38psi.

Google your car model and recommended tyre pressure it’ll come up.

Claw001 · 16/01/2019 11:59

Hereward yes that’s my thinking 50 psi is maximum load.

32 psi is usually the tyre pressure for other cars I had. 32psi it is!!

Thank you very much

Just noticed that’s the inside door pic and zoomed in better... forget the above, 2.6 looks like it means the spare.

So under light loads, should be 2.2bar front and back. Heavy loaded 2.4 bar front and back. 2.2bar is 32psi, 2.4bar is 35psi.

Claw001 · 16/01/2019 12:12

Thank you. Just inflated tyres, 3 started at 31psi, so 32 must be correct. 1 tyre was 22, which is why display was flashing at me!

Thank you again!

Well done Mumsnet. Clearly worth checking especially with ice and snow coming up for some of us .... and on any long journeys. Or any journeys at all. 22psi when it's supposed to be 32 is clearly buggering the balance of the car and its grip .....

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 16/01/2019 15:18

If one tyre was 22psi when all the rest were 31 it might have a slow puncture so keep an eye on it and replace if necessary.

Claw001 · 16/01/2019 16:20

Thanks, I’ve only had the car a few days. I will check it again in a few days to see if it’s a slow puncture
