Pleasr can someone help. I have 2 doctors sayinh different things. One saying be has cows and lactose problems and one saying he hasnt. He also has really bad silent reflux. My HV suggests i try get him on to neocate. We have been on 5 milks and nothing is helping. I am getting nowhere. Anyone been on a few milks and then finally got onto neocate and noticed a difference?

We went from breastfeeding to nutramigen to neocate. The mixture of neocate, omeprazole and as and when required domperidone was the only thing that brought enough relief for life to be remotely bareable till he outgrew it.

When did he outgrow it. Im honestly going insane. He is on omeprazole and gaviscon. I have just found out the milk he was on prior sma alfamino is now the new neocate. He was not bad on the milk then all of a sudden he was terrible again. He is not back on ( which i didnt want ) aptimal pepti one which makes his reflux terrible!

Hi OP both my DD's had CMPA and were treated for reflux. Both eventually ended up on Neocate but it took DD1 a lot longer to be put on it. I would say in answer to your question that yes Neocate transformed both my children within a couple of days. I honestly thought both times I was going insane like you.
DD1 was at first put onto Neutramigen but wouldn't drink it so was put onto cow and gate pepti junior. She had omeprazole for her reflux and we were given carobel to thicken the milk to to keep it down As she was constantly projectile vomiting and falling down the centiles.
All symptoms eventually resolved once she was finally put onto Neocate at 7 months.
With DD2 we knew the signs so she was diagnosed much quicker. At two weeks old she was on aptamil pepti, at 7 weeks SMA Althera and then again Neocate with rantitidne for her reflux. Again her symptoms stopped within about 3 days of starting Neocate. Both times drs were reluctant to prescribe it and I understand that it is a cost issue as other formulas are cheaper but it really did transform my children.
I've been there OP and it's incredibly stressful. I honestly don't think I could ever go through it again.
My eldest outgrew her CMPA between 18 months and 2 years. My youngest who is 15 Months is showing signs that she may too outgrow it.
I'm sorry as I have no experience of alfamino but I understand that you are correct in saying it's an amino acid formula like Neocate. Unfortunately there are no tests for CMPA so it's very much trial and error until it's what suits your baby but Neocate is usually a last resort.
I hope it all works for you so you can enjoy your baby Thanks

Aptamil pepti is one of the lowest grade hypo allergenic formulas so if he does have CMPA, it will often not work which may explain why his reflux is so bad.

Catscakeandchocolate · 16/01/2019 22:21

If he has cmpa or cmpi neocate will do the trick. The only way to find out is to try it. It is hugely expensive so they resist prescribing it but it is the only completely dairy/lactose free formula. The rest have traces. It will get better, keep pushing

You might want to join the CMPA Reflux group on Facebook, you should get good advice and support there.
