How normal is it for a 6 yr old to dislike school drop off?

DS started school just after half term last term, he's 6 so has gone into yr 2.

He doesn't like drop off, normally has to be walked into the classroom and handed to an assistant. He had a few weeks before Christmas not going in quite happily but the break has unsettled him.

I'm told he is quite happy within 5 mins, no tears etc and he bounds out of school full of beans.

Is this normal? Should I be worrying about this reluctance at drop off or so we just carry blithely on and trust that it's all fine? 😬

A lot of children go through a stage where they get a big clingy at drop off, I’ve noticed it with classmates of all of mine though thankfully mine have always been fine.

It seems to stop by the end of year 3 so I wouldn’t worry too much.

Very normal. Try not to worry.

My DD2 was terribly clingy at drop off for a while. She would stand crying silently in the line. If I asked her why she was crying she said she would miss me/us We solved it by giving her a photo of us to take with her to school so she could look at it and not miss us.

She is now an independent 21yo at uni 350 miles away so I am thinking it had no lasting effect on her!
